How to Optimize Subscription Paywall With A/B Testing?

We've just finished a post about optimizing subscription paywall with A/B testing. And we considering A/B testing should be used to test subscription paywall's elements like:
- pricing portfolio
- pricing discount
- designs
- benefits
- viewers' segmenting
The above paywall elements are easy to apply a/b testing with a third-party a/b testing tool. However, others like the visibility of a paywall, when&where to put the paywall are harder to test without app republishing.
Could you share your experience with subscription paywall a/b testing? or recommend any tools for me to study? That would really help!
