How to pre-sell your SaaS idea

Literally, before you even have the 1st line of code. Create a landing page defining the pain points and how to solve them.
Then pay 2 weeks of google ads to that landing page and see how many subscribe to the idea.
Boom -> idea validated + some users ready to pre-launch to.

I like to call these Prospecting pages (pretty sure other people also called them that long before).

But yup, you've basically just laid out the golden ticket, landing page and then go right to the customers.

I'd add that you should even have a marketing/acquisition channel that isn't Google lined up.

Depends. The industry I work in is dominated by a few players so getting into google ads requires a lot of spending. When I can write a few lines of code in one day for nothing and have an actual MVP to show.

I've recently read about building in public and that is my future plan for my side project.

Landing page with an email field.

I've written medium tech articles with great success in the past ( couple $300+ articles and a $5k one) and the SEO on medium is amazing.

I'm talking first result on Google when searching related terms.

I havent done self promotion there before but I think adding back links to the landing page could rank me up. Guess I'll find out soon.

I also posted my progress in an iOS dev subreddit and got about 200 up votes with various users asking me to release the app or a beta cause they wanted to try it out.

Completely agree with all of this, especially the validation part. If you are not getting any pre-sales then something is definitely wrong and you'll probably need to change something to make your product sellable.

    Great article!
Before you can start selling your SaaS idea, you need to generate interest and create a buzz around what you're offering. This is known as pre-selling, and it's an essential part of any successful sales strategy.

Great article, Pavati. Pre-selling is the ultimate validation for any project and it helps to have all the strategies at one place.

I got an idea yesterday, made some UI mockups, made a landing page, and now will try to pre sell it before writing any code.

And if i don't get any pre sales, means that my product is solving a problem that doesn't exist.

Or my message is bad 😂

Our product is not ready yet but we are doing the ads campaign for specific long-tail keywords for our landing pages to see if anyone is interested to get the early beta access and bump for our new features.

There are a few approaches you can take to attract pre-orders of your SaaS. A proven one is the “sticker strategy.” You can print stickers with your company name, logo and tagline that you can place visibly anywhere in the location you plan on launching your service from and then offer them for sale as a club, race or event premium. Another popular option is sponsoring local festivals to bring more visibility for your business - one example would be insuring 80 hotdog vendors at an upcoming festival and giving them one free year of access to your SaaS service while they’re at the event.
