If you got your first users and validated your product but not sure how to scale it further — consider ProductHunt launch (it can give 1k—5k views in few days).
Disclaimer: we launched our product (Momentum — PH Link) May 29 and it was product #1 of the day/week and #1 marketing product of the week. We ended up with ~1,000 upvotes during the launch day and it generated ~8k unique views!
Here's how you can prepare your launch to do the same:
Select the day with less competition (normally Fri—Mon). You can change the date later if needed, no big stress (we did that).
Notify page is your ProductHunt landing page. Image + title. It takes few minutes to launch. You can update it later.
Launch Notify page on the first day.
Tweet that you launch your product that solves X problem. It's your commit now.
It's important that you set some expectations for the launch so you can track your output.
In our case we've set the target for the month (1,000 pages launched and +500 users) and we were moving towards this numbers the whole month and could project possible outcome for the launch day.
Having goal is great because it's naturally force you to market your product and talk with people/customers to get case studies.
Your goal is to increase the number of links and number of unique people/convos where the link is shared.
Don't spam, find where the link fits. Explain what exactly your product does.
To do that genuinely engage daily with other makers and your target audience on Twitter. Learn their names. Bring them on a call. Make them your friends!
It's a useful analytics tool that you'll use daily during your launch prep to monitor how other tools perform.
All makers are scared and nervous before their launches. Even if they did it before.
Genuinely research what they're building, try to pitch their product with your own words, quote and retweet their launches.
Chances are they will do the same when you launch (if you commented few times under their content).
You can learn from them, ask questions or even got them on a call!
These big guys helped me a lot: @TakoTreba, @d4m1n, @aliszu, @thisiskp_, @zeng_wt
The more details people see about you as a maker or your product, the more they relate and remember you.
We've used our team photos and videos extensively.
We've used catchy copy and music on our demo video. It was far from perfect but it was unique.
Here's what you should have by the launch day:
• 100+ users who clicked notify
• Big number of twitter convos where you shared Notify link (200+)
• Small group of makers/influencers who will 100% support you during the launch day (eg. 5 makers)
• Larger group of makers/people who will likely support you (100+ people you engaged with)
Let me know if you have any questions!
PS the product that we launched is a stupid-simple landing page builder that allows you to launch products in seconds — https://momentum.page
Thank you for the tips. Do you also have any advice for someone who has absolutely no social media following? Do you think one can have a successful lunch without that?
Yes, it will be successful and reflect your efforts. You will get views, win friends, learn a lot about product validation and launch.
Social media = founders+tech community.
If you have access to other communities, use it to maximum! eg. it can be your company; co-working office; conference etc.
Social media following / audience take years to build. But you don't have to have much followers, you just need to find these few people to support and notify much broader audience regularly.
eg. I had 1M tweet views / month with 1,000 twitter followers
Great info, these are all valuable points. I haven't launched on Product Hunt just yet, but when I do, I'm going to be following this Product Hunt Launch Checklist 🚀
This info is absolutely lit. thanks
Appreciate your support! 💯
It's a great insight Igor. I am planning to launch my product in PH soon and I will definitely revisit the points to prepare for it
Thank you and good luck!
Thanks for the insight, super cool product btw :)
Thank you Tom, appreciate it a lot!
Great advice, thankyou
Thank you too 💯
I wish I had seen your post before launching my service, Dunoit. It could have helped me garner more than 100 votes. Missed opportunity!
Congratulations on your achievement and thanks for sharing this.
This is super helpful. Thank you
If you are planning a PH launch, please let me know as I am more than willing to assist you.
Find me at PH @niroshnr
great post. how long did it take you to prepare the launch in term of hours worked?
that's a good question
it all depends on your goal (it's something that I missed in guide)
our goal was 1,000 pages created during the month (including launch)
so we were working towards the goal and kinda projecting results to launch day
I'd recommend to dedicate as much time as you can for the launch. It's a long-term asset — you're building community around you that stays with you (that's why we were close to full-time on Twitter)
I'd recommend minimum 2 hours a day. Max — full-time, you promote your product and meet other builders = working on growth.
That's interesting. I did my PH launch 6 days
ago but, based on you guide, I think it didn't put enough prep to it. It created some traffic but not as good as I want. I am still on 18 upvotes in 7 days. I will have to redo it.
sounds right! it's all about engaging the community around you because you are on the big and scary mission (launching on producthunt)
make people relate to you, support other makers and you'll get more support by the launch day!
thank you
Do you have any insights if it works reaching out to other product hunt makers on linkedIn?
I haven't tried LinkedIn, sorry!
In "theory" it should be the same but in practice LinkedIn is weird!
Thanks for sharing these! Will definitely do such and see what I will achieve.
Gonna launch my product on PH very soon, would you mind me do a shameless plug of it🥹
sure, let's go!
train your pitch :)
Thx, Igor!
Gonna launch BoolVideo very soon! It's a game-changing AI tool that makes producing videos easier than ever! Generate professional-quality videos with just images and prompts within clicks. Get notified here🚀: pxl.to/ph
Congratulations on this launch and thank you for your feedback, it's very interesting!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing these valuable insights on how to prepare for a successful ProductHunt launch!
sure, hope it helps!
Aha, we launched a few months ago, but we didn't really give it a thought, to be honest. I think when we have a considerable update, we will relaunch again. And, I will keep your suggestions in mind. Thank you :)
sure! keep launching, some people do it like monthly
build community, make friends and you'll be good! (but it takes time!)
Wait launch monthly on Product Hunt? Can you even do that?
not for a single product
but you can build micro-products (can be info-product or research) to drive growth to your product
These tactics are helpful. They are very specific which is the kind of thing that I personally find the most helpful.
Thank you! Trying to cut off the BS and be specific!
Let me know if you have any other question, would be happy to help!
Thanks Igor! some really useful tips. I am curious, how did you get to 100 influencers?
sorry it is a typo — I had about 5 influencers and hundreds of makers/people around aware about our launch and ready to support 😏
That's awesome. How did you reach those people, asking them to promote your new product (both makers and influencers)?
I was extensively tweeting on how we're building the product for the whole month (+also running community)
I was regularly reaching out to new people to expand network and get new friends
I was following and engaging some influencers before the launch so they already knew me too. I've jumped on a call with one of them and chatted in DM/Twitter with other (PH people are pretty supportive!)
Check out #buildinpublic hashtag/community in Twitter, it's a great way to meet other makers!
Awesome list thank you !
Thanks for the insights, will follow your guide for my upcoming PH launch and update the results here.
Thank you and good luck!
Please tag me at Twitter I'll try to help (that_igor_)
Great insights on preparing for a successful ProductHunt launch! Engaging with the community, supporting fellow makers, and showing authenticity are key factors for a strong launch. As I'm building my own free website builder called RocketPages.io, I'll definitely take these tips into account. Excited to see how Momentum Page and RocketPages grow in the future! 🚀
