How to quickly design your product logo?

We recently started working on our new product, Postnitro, and we set out with a challenge to get to market within 20 days 🙌 well as you can guess we couldn't waste a single second.

We had decided on a name and obviously the next step was to design a logo. Getting someone to design the logo would take time and needless back and forth with the designer to get it right. So instead we thought why not try out free tools that help generate our logo?

We tried out sooo many tools, even tried Canva to create one but none of them would produce the right output for us.

THEN CAME NAMECHEAP'S LOGO MAKER!!!! 💪

The easiest to use and the best among all alternatives! ❤️

With six easy steps, we were done:

  1. Provide Brand Name: This was basically the getting started step and was a no brainer 😉

  2. Select Font: I think this was the most crucial one as we were also worried about the font for the product and logo and on this very step it provided Postnitro written in the most beautiful fonts! And we were able to select the ones best fit our product. 😎
FYI: note down the fonts you select so that you can experiment with them in the application as well to see how it looks.

  3. Choose The Color: Again, super helpful!! 😭 We were a little confused on the color scheme for the application and this step helped us set the theme for the entire application!

  4. Add Slogan: Hahaha, this step actually had us stumped 😂 we hadn't thought about it as well, we had just finished celebrating the name and this wasn't even on our minds. So in a quick huddle, we decided to go with the slogan "The ultimate AI-powered Twitter growth tool!"

  5. Select An Icon: We all voted on the top three icons that felt the closest to what represented Postnitro and violaaa! We got our logos.

  6. Download The Logos: Downloaded the logos we felt right for us. These were all downloaded in different sizes to fit as "cover", "profile", etc. and we even got them in vectors!

Scroll below to see how we finalized them...

The first logo:

first

We all decided against this one as it didn't really say POSTNITRO like we wanted it to 😏

The second logo:

second

We all saw this and said yesss this makes sense but still it was close enough but really matched our vibe 😔 so we started to play around with this.

As you can see the gradient was spot on, but the lines were too thin and downward facing?! which did not look right so we started working on transforming it.

We made the lines thicker and made them point upwards! and then the final form was here...

Final logo:

final-form

🚀 ISN'T THIS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN!! 😳

Happy with this logo we put it up on our Indie Hacker's product page and Twitter.

And well we were done!

Not only did we create a logo that fits our product we also got to set the font, the perfect color scheme and a slogan.

At the end a shout out to Namecheap for building this module and for actually helping us finalize so many crucial aspects of our application! ✌️

Interesting, not convinced with the designs, I think it generates too generic logos!

    1. 2

Haha, you are absolutely right @hijunedkhatri :D

But at least it is something to get started with right? :D

      1. 2

Absolutely, you got me there :p

  2. 3

I highly suggest the best tool for rapidly and easily making a logo is Canva.

    1. 1

Yup, that is my go-to for almost all design-related tasks @mattharris :D

Have you tried Vista Create? They are coming strong these days!

  3. 2

    Amazing.... 👌 Good Job...

One way to quickly design your product logo is by using online logo makers such as Canva, Tailor Brands, or Logojoy. These tools offer a variety of templates, icons, and fonts to choose from and allow you to customize your logo to match your brand's style and personality.

Another option is to hire a freelance designer or design agency to create your logo. Platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, and 99designs make it easy to find and hire talented designers at an affordable price.

However, keep in mind that your logo is a crucial part of your brand identity, so it's essential to take the time to create a logo that reflects your brand's values and resonates with your target audience. Don't rush the design process, and don't be afraid to ask for feedback from your customers and peers.

Comment: These are great tips! It's important to remember that a logo is often the first thing potential customers will see, so it's important to make a good impression. I've used online logo makers before and found them to be quite helpful. Another option is to ask your audience for feedback on your logo to see if it resonates with them.

      Hey @Satish_Gopalam, you are right!

I want your honest opinion on the current logo, what do you think we could have done better?

Also, yes we should spend some more time on branding but at the moment thought of powering through and getting to market faster.

  4. 2

Honestly for Evoke, my co-founder simply thought the Lambda looked cool haha

    1. 1

Haha, @RichardGao it goes well with your product so yes it does look cool!! :D

  5. 2

That looks cool! thanx for sharing😃

I used Namecheap to generate the logo for Usage Panda. I'm not a designer by any means, but it was the fastest option to get something live!

    1. 1

@cddotdotslash your logo is super cool!! :D

Haha honestly, I am not that good at designing either but really happy that Namecheap helped :D

  7. 2

Midjourney is a good option now. Although, in initial days logo's and even names don't matter. You can change it once you start getting some traction.

    1. 1

You are absolutely right @curiouspm! For now going ahead with this :D latter on we can change it as we progress!

Haha, I would be really happy if you would also share some tricks and tips for Midjourney :D

  8. 2

I begin with Canva just to get the feel of a logo, and if I need more creativity, I engage a logo designer from Fiverr. I feel these 2 platforms get you logos that are a bit more minimalist and youthful.

    1. 1

      That makes sense @emanoj!

I personally have had alot of issues getting things done with freelancers, especially designers.

If you can recommend some good designers that would be great! :)

      1. 1

        Hi Muneeb,
Are you looking at getting your logo redesigned?
Have you had a chance to check out Fiverr and the gigs posted there?

        1. 1

Not really, I think its best to just go ahead with this for now and maybe change later if need be :D

But yes, a professional designer working on web design would be great!

          1. 1

I do like your current logo and how you are using them across your 2 projects in different colors.

            1. 1

Thank you!! :D would you believe after finalizing this one we realized it was quite similar to the other one xD

  9. 2

Ooh, this is timely, I was just fighting a bunch of these logo makers last night. Thanks, I'll try it for my SaaS Bootstrapper newsletter.

    1. 1

I want to see the final logo!! Do share @macmartine

  10. 2

I use Midjourney for non-text based logos and assets

    1. 2

I have a hard time getting Midjourney to not include text sometimes. I tried the no-text flag, or whatever it is. No luck.

      1. 2

I use the prompt "flat design graphic design logo of a ____" But you have to know what you want something like "Lightning bolt logo for a SaaS company" will end up with text often

      2. 1

Hahaha @macmartine, let’s have @TasselHat give us a crash course on Midjourney :D

    2. 1

@TasselHat please share your logo as well!!

Haha, I’ve always had a hard time getting the right output with Midjourney. Can you also share some tips?

  11. 2

Good job! I'm going to design a logo for MagicBee here.

    1. 2

      That would be awesome @rockpan!!

Please do share what you come up with :D

Your landing page is really spot on!

      1. 2

A bee mascot, the simpler the better. I tried to use Midjourney to generate a Logo for me before, but it wasn't clean enough.

        1. 1

I can relate to this :D I always have a hard time getting Midjourney to produce the result I want :D

  12. 2

I have used Fiverr when needed until now -- you get great innovative results with not too much money.

    1. 1

please recommend freelancers, i am looking for a design overhaul of my tool

    2. 1

      Yes @talboren you are right!

Please do recommend some freelancers that I can reach out to for design related work.

  13. 2

I used Wix logo maker which works with a very similar list of inputs.
How did you edit the logo, does Namecheap's logo maker give that functionality or used Canva ?

    1. 1

Ooh, did not know about that @sukh_la 😳

No, I edited it on my laptop. The heavy lifting part was done by Namecheap the minor improvements were done locally.

And no, it doesn't provide edit functionality ... or maybe I missed it in my excitement 😁

      1. 1

I also made logo of my saas linkly.digital from Wix logo maker

I kinda of liked it as is because we are about helping users build a network and Linkly also helps users build their backlink network.

        1. 1

Your logo is really cool .. haha will use Wix logo maker next time! :D

  14. 2

Great to hear that a logo maker worked well for you.

I can share our story about how we came up with the name and designed the logo.

We did it the traditional way - with humans - so it took some time to come up with a name that we liked.
Likewise, the design was definitely not short, with a lot of back-and-forth to make sure the logo represented our vision.
The process took us several weeks, at least.

I won't say which approach is better - it all depends on your specific needs.

    Yours,
    KodingKitty

    1. 1

      Thank you for sharing @KodingKitty!

Haha, I can tell that you guys spent a lot of time perfecting your branding!

I would love to know more about the concept of your application and how the market responded to your branding :)

  15. 2

I have always had a hard time creating logos on free websites online but this looks really cool.

How many other sites did you try?

    1. 1

Hey @gmsniperx, have you tried https://logo.com .. haha this used to be my default and well honestly Namecheap's felt more intuitive and produced better results!

There is one by the name of Looka too that you can try :D

  16. 2
    • Great share in the problem and how you approached it. Thankyou
    • mm..regarding outcome - lower case would better match feel of LP
    • for branding, the strongest brands are intuitive in action. Yours is not for me as no idea what it means or even curious what it means. I went to the LP to see because of your post on IH. Thats it.
    • For example, ReLondon branding, tells me something is changing in London... or the famous one YouTube, tells me something for me (you) and something about video (Tube is old name of TV). -- Both cases tell me (citizen) something by the brand name. Or recent ones on IH (Tally Forms, Be Inclusive). Both intuitive or intuitive and creating an expanding experience.
    • Branding exceptions typically are for physical product e.g. Apple, Amazon
    • Branding that is ineffective are typically gimmicky style as they speak into the already listening by citizens (of yet another hallow promise, flash and lacking substance)

Fun Fact: YouTube originally was launched as a dating site. Their branding was way-off for that but spot-on for what it became.

Regarding the use of Twitter. Twitter impact is not a content problem as your LP alludes your solving. It is a usage problem. The actual use of twitter is poorly under utilised. It could be so much more if used authentically. Elon has alluded to his vision of how it can be used. Get that, and work from that mindset versus the using twitter as a broadcast dm tool --> will see biggest impact in twitter space..

    1. 1

Thank you for the feedback @catalystNewbie!! These are some really out-of-the-box pointers and they are definitely spot-on.

Haha, we've already gone ahead with this name and we'll build the persona for the application around it to feel more relatable :D

To make it understandable let me break it down for you:

      • Post: something to do with posting like to social channels:
      • Nitro: short for "nitroglycerine", generally used in explosives
      • .ai: powered by AI xD

So a platform that creates posts powered by AI that you can use to explode your content over all social channels :D

      Does that make sense? xD

      1. 1

nope. sorry. doesnt do it for me. way too complicated in a noise-ful world
platform that creates posts powered by AI that you can use to explode your content = yeck.. combo of hallow promise and why would I want to broadcast hallow posts

        1. 1

Hahaha, I am loving your critique.

I promise I will send you the first invite for the product and I would like you to roast it just like this :D

Hopefully I would be able to change your mind :)

          1. 1

explore Elon's vision of twitter. Then you may have a chance to flip even me.
