Get better sleep as a founder or indie hacker is very important.

The key to a good night’s sleep is all about the bedroom environment, and knowing how to design it to make you feel the most comfortable.

It’s not just the decor.

There are certain aspects of your bedroom that can be tailored specifically for you to get better sleep at night.

Of course, these tips don’t apply to only insomniacs.

Even if you aren’t struggling with sleepless nights, following these guidelines can help positively impact your health and well-being as well.

Here are more quick tips:

  1. Exercise regularly.
  2. Maintain a regular sleep schedule.
  3. Don’t drink caffeine 3 hours before you sleep.
  4. Create a relaxing bedtime routine.
  5. Make your bedroom sleep friendly.
  6. Keep your bedroom cool, the ideal temperature is 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
  7. Minimize light and noise in the bedroom.
  8. Eat a balanced diet that includes healthy fats and proteins, and drink lots of water.
  9. Create a bedtime routine.
  10. Give your body and mind the message that it’s time to rest.
  11. Use a white noise machine or fan to drown out outside noise and create a soothing, restful environment.
  12. Exercise regularly, but not within two hours of going to bed.
  13. Everyday stresses can make it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep, so try to relax before bedtime.

    1. Always keep your environment clean and clutter free.

    2. Read and apply Marcus Aurelius' Meditations daily. Helps avoid unnecessary thoughts and actions that stress, worry and drain you. The audio version is priceless.

    3. Use good quality essential oils with a diffuser. Lavender is great for relaxation. Peppermint is great for energy and getting rid of headaches.

    I also think this not mentioned enough when talking about sleep, but one of the things that has made a big difference in my sleep habits is making it a priority. This means, I pretty much let nothing disrupt my sleep schedule. I have a set bed time, and I don't compromise.

    If I have a bad nights sleep, it's typically because I can't "turn my brain off". I think a lot and tend to worry and sometimes this is hard to "turn off". I do things like, read before bed or do an enjoyable task that I know helps quiet my mind. I also keep devices out of the bedroom. My phone is physically turned off when I'm sleeping.

      So true, many people are just enslaved by technology .. we should be masters of our devices, but unfortunately tech seems to have the bigger brain and more compelling .. perhaps something to be added into our primary education for future generations.

    "Minimize light and noise in the bedroom."

    I've got big windows in my room and I live in a city with lots of light pollution. Getting blackout curtains helped me sleep.

      I like this too, blackout curtains is a must, but if there no other options, just slap your back palm to block your eyes ( I actually learn this trick from a cat and it works! )
