hi everyone,
Since I'm here I'm basically reading two things:
In the success stories some posted here, it was often mentioned that the initial user base & traction was created through Social Media (mostly Twitter).
Now, I understand the concept of "build in public" and to have the feedback loop. I think it's great and I would love to go the same path.
BUT - I'm absolutley terrible at everything social media. I struggle with the content that is popular and that an audience seem to expect. For example popular posts in LinkedIn do follow the Facebook-scheme ("cute cats"). The screenshots I see from Twitter are weird to me (text based joking).
Anyways - I have to walk a long walk to get my social media footprint sorted and because it doesn't come natural to me, it's a challenge.
My questions is: What alternatives do you think I have to gather an audience 'to build in public'?
(despite learning how to social media.)
Hi! Twitter is something else. People want something valuable to them, they like to be complimented and they love finding useful content. Start by tracking the popular hashtags, follow the people that are relevant to your target, and scroll, scroll, scroll! Content ideas will come through. Good luck with that!
Thanks. I'm on it now!
Just view Twitter as a microblogging rather than as social platform. Use Twitter as a personal microblog and post what you find interesting.
Thanks Paolo to boil it down to "microblogging". Makes a lot of sense.
You're welcome, microblogging is also at the roots of Twitter.
What you need to do is to just get started with the challenge. Just start "logging" your ideas, status or your product updates on twitter & interact with like-minded people. That will help you.
Also, You should take a look at the #90Daysofprose challenge by @dkh.
Thanks for the inspiration :)
Social media is still my big hit. I usually bring in and engage with my audience on Twitter and LinkedIn. Other than that, I get connected with a lot of nice people here and some communities on Slack.
Yes, there is no way around Social Media to promote. I have to learn :)
In case someone comes across this thread and is in a similar situation like me, I would like to share two bits of information:
this guide, what the first steps on Twitter should be: https://www.takeflyte.com/resources/newsletters/twitter-following-from-scratch.php
and in regard to content, the new/current trend seems to be "micro-content". People spent 8 sec on a post max. People don't read much, they mostly want to consume. Share a short video or info-graphic to bring across your point.
