How to succeed in building software for markets where you have zero industry knowledge?

Hey everyone,

I recently formed my own company, it's primary focus is to start, build, and grow internet businesses. Something that I've thought about long and hard is; how do you go about successfully building software for a market where you have zero industry knowledge? I'm from software, though I don't want to limit myself to just building software that caters to the very same people.

How do you go about approaching people in the industry that you wish to build for? What should I ask for and what should I expect to get?

I would primarily be interested in forming partnerships with people whom have a lot of knowledge to share within a particular industry and build something in collaboration.

Do any of you have experience of building software for an unknown market? If so, how did you go about it?
