How to sustain the first-page position in Google Search Results?

I was doing SEO of my website and suddenly I came to that some of my blogs are shifted from page 1 to page 2. So, I was wondering how can I sustain that position on page 1. Do I have to regularly make backlinks and some changes on that blog according to keywords? Any tip?
