How to test hair-brained idea?

Tim Abell on Twitter

I have a crazy idea to hack together a bit of hardware to make mixed remote/on-site standup meetings more inclusive.

What are my options for testing the idea's traction with the minimum investment of time/effort/money whilst still being a sensible validation of whether people would buy such a product.

I like the landing page + email list thing but I figure that's pointless unless I can drive traffic, and I'm having enough trouble figuring out how to do that for my existing side-hustle.

Ideas?

You could check how well this product is doing as a validation of the idea.

There seems to be some demand. Double has been around for 6 years, shipping for 5.

There are a few more if you google „telepresence robot“

That is encouraging, and that is an eye-watering price point! $3k

I wonder how many they actually sell, who they sell them too and why they want them. I wouldn't know how to even begin to find out.
