How to validate your startup idea and why Kamikaze pilots wear a helmet?

Hey! 😊

Don’t worry! I will get to why kamikaze pilots are wearing a helmet ASAP
but since I already manage to grab your attention, I hope you don’t mind if I will share with you a new way to validate your new startup ideas.
I’ve had some free time lately, so I put together a little side project just for fun. I realized however that it might have the potential for usefulness and decided to share it with you

— The Problem 👎 —
For every successful new product on Product-Hunt (a platform for new products), there are 100 unsuccessful ones. The less successful products sometimes see hundreds of hours of work quite simply — down the drain.

— The Solution 👍 —
Many entrepreneurs are using a cool way to save all that work in the first place.
They are running a “Fake-Door” test.
But what exactly is a fake door test?

Let’s run through the process:

  1. You are coming up with a new startup idea
  2. You are launching a new Landing page describing the problem you’re trying
to solve the product you’re selling and (your solution), without really
building it. You are adding a CTA (call to action) and you check how many
users are interested in your product by clicking on the CTA. (It could be a
“leave your email” button or a “purchase” button)
  3. You promote your website
  4. Only then you decide if you still want to build that product and start your
    own startup.

But now there is a new problem:
I had my idea and no one was interested.
After some time I had another one and again — no one was interested.
The routine can happen lots of time and require each time to build and design a new landing page and to promote it on social networks or with an advertising campaign. These things can cost you lots of money and even more important — time.

That is why I built Landified.
Landified! A social network where you can submit a post about the problem you’re trying to solve and your idea for a solution/product.
As soon as you submit your idea and fill in a few blanks you automatically get an awesome landing page with an illustration that fits your category. You can easily edit the content of the landing page and add images of your own. All pages share the design, the illustrations, the code, and the search engine optimization.

Instead of wasting days on building, designing, and optimizing your website, you can do it for exactly 2 minutes.

— Why Did I Build it? 🤷‍♂️ —
Like I mentioned before — I found myself building lots of websites for new ideas and spent hours designing, programming, optimizing, and searching for free illustrations to use. Even with web builders, the process took me hours. I decided to create a template where I could just input text and be done. After using that template for a while I understood it could help others. I worked a few more days on the template and launched Landified.

— Landified Features 👌 —
Landified helps you validate your idea in two ways:
👉 Feedback. We, as entrepreneurs, can give feedback quickly and easily by
liking and commenting on posts. Live discussion can help me and you
make sure we are not working for nothing.
👉 Advertising! The money you save by not building a website from scratch can
go towards a low budget advertising campaign that will get data points
based on the number of people who show interest by leaving their emails.
(Soon there will be an option to pre-sell your product).

— FAQ —
❔ How is this any different from Product-Hunt?
❕ Product-Hunt is for finished products. Landified is for little baby ideas.

❔ How is that different from any other community for sharing ideas?
❕ Firstly, you are getting a Landing page. Secondly, Landified requires the user
to fill out a form that will help the user to understand himself what he is
trying to do and then will help us as a community to help him.

❔ Why would I share my ideas, someone will Zuckerberg me?
❕ There always a risk of ‘idea stealing’. In my understanding, an idea alone is
nothing and what matters is execution, good team, marketing, timing, and
more. Besides that — sooner or later, you will have to build a landing page,
and history taught us that being first doesn’t mean you will be the successful
one.

❔ If all the websites look the same what’s the point?
❕ If you are familiar with Dribbble, you probably know that each designer gets
a portfolio and the only difference is the content. I believe that you should be
unique in your solution and not your fancy website.
That being said, I can’t ignore the fact that having the same website might
not be ideal.
For this reason, the illustrations are different in each category and you can
add your custom images, illustrations, and logo through the website. Soon I
hope to add a ‘theme’ feature to customize the color scheme.

❔ The illustrations are from Shutterstock!
❕ Not exactly. I approached the creator personally and asked his permission to
use them. He gave me written permission and nothing is through
Shutterstock. All the illustrations used on the website are legally AOK.

— Important Notes —
👉 There are a few bugs that I know about, but I would be happy to hear about
any bug you find!
👉 I would love to hear your suggestions for improvements and feature
requests.

If you’ve made it this far, Thank You for your time! ❤️️

— Finally, why Kamikaze pilots wear a helmet? 🤷‍♂️ —

There are two reasons why they wear a helmet.

  1. We all know that a helmet won’t save you from an airplane crash. So basically also regular pilots don’t need to wear one.
The reason Kamikaze Pilots and regular pilots are wearing a helmet it: protecting the pilot’s head from getting knocked by the cockpit canopy during high-speed.
  2. For the photo. That’s right. The Kamikaze pilots always took a “last-photo” and the helmet is part of the pilot outfit.

Thanks again for your time,
Naveh

Congrats on the launch @NavehMevorach, sounds like a great concept! Quick one - can I use my own domain name with the service?

      Hi Daniel. Thanks!
      At the moment you can’t
But that for sure on of the next few features I want to add if there will be enough users :)
I would love it if you could share your own post.
      Thanks,
      Naveh
