How We Built Flight: Affordable Email Marketing Tool

Running an agency means sending a lot of emails—lead generation, client updates, newsletters, promotions, follow-ups—you name it. But if you’ve ever used big-name email platforms, you know the pain: the bigger your contact list, the higher your bill. Even if you send only a few campaigns, you still pay for storing thousands of contacts.

When we started talking to agencies, we heard the same frustration again and again:

“We just want something simple and affordable. Why is that so hard to find?”

That’s when we decided to build Flight—a bulk email tool designed for agencies that want predictable pricing, essential features, and high deliverability. With Flight, you can send up to 50,000 emails a month for just $30/month (annual) or $45/month (monthly)—no matter how many contacts you have.

The Pain We Saw in the Market

Before writing a single line of code, we spent months talking to agency owners. The problems were clear:

  1. The Wrong Pricing Model – Most tools charge per contact stored, not per email sent. Agencies managing multiple clients often pay hundreds of dollars for contacts they’re not even emailing every month.
  2. Feature Overload – Many tools are bloated with automation flows, social posting, CRM add-ons, and integrations agencies don’t need. These extras just make the platform harder to learn and more expensive.
  3. Deliverability Concerns – Even with premium plans, some tools still had issues with spam filters or slow sending speeds.

We knew there had to be a better way—something simpler, cheaper, and more reliable.

The Vision for Flight

When we sat down to plan Flight, we asked ourselves: “If we were running an agency, what would we want?”
The answers became our core principles:

  • Affordable and predictable pricing – Charge for emails sent, not contacts stored.
  • Simple to use – No overwhelming dashboards, just what you need to send effective campaigns.
  • Built for deliverability – Use a trusted backend to make sure emails actually land in inboxes.

Choosing the Right Engine

Early on, we faced a big decision—should we build our own sending infrastructure or use an existing provider?

We chose SendGrid’s Email API for one big reason: it’s battle-tested. By using SendGrid, we could:

  • Send up to 50,000 emails per month on their Essential Plan for just $20/month.
  • Skip the headaches of managing email servers and compliance rules.
  • Focus on building a beautiful, simple interface for agencies instead of reinventing the wheel.

Keeping It Minimal (On Purpose)

One of the first things we decided was what not to build. We didn’t want Flight to turn into another bloated marketing tool.

Instead, we focused on the must-haves for agencies:

  • Campaign creation with an HTML or template editor.
  • Resend to unopened contacts with one click.
  • Follow-up emails that appear in the same conversation thread for better engagement.
  • Clear, simple statistics—opens, clicks, bounces—without overwhelming reports.

By saying “no” to unnecessary features, we made Flight fast to learn and easy to use from day one.

Finding Our First Users

Instead of going straight into highly regulated markets like the EU (GDPR), we decided to start in non-GDPR regions. This strategy let us:

  • Launch quickly without heavy compliance overhead.
  • Test real-world campaigns with early adopters.
  • Collect feedback and success stories to refine the product.

Our ideal customers are marketing and lead generation agencies who send regular bulk emails and want to control costs without giving up reliability.

The Early Access Program

Before our official launch on October 1, 2025, we’re inviting agencies to join our Early Access Program.

Early access members get:

  • 7-day free trial (100 emails/day limit).
  • Priority onboarding support so you can get started quickly.
  • Special annual pricing locked in for life.

Pricing:

  • Annual – $360/year
  • Monthly – $45/month

Why Flight Feels Different

Here’s why agencies have been calling Flight “the email tool that actually makes sense”:

  1. You pay for emails sent, not contacts stored—finally, predictable bills.
  2. You can learn it in a day—the interface is clean and straightforward.
  3. You get better engagement—resend and follow-up tools are built in.
  4. You trust your sending—powered by SendGrid for deliverability and speed.

What’s Next for Flight

Our roadmap is simple but powerful:

  • Advanced segmentation for more targeted campaigns.
  • API access for agencies who want automation.
  • Done-for-you templates designed for agency use cases.

But we promise one thing—Flight will stay simple, affordable, and agency-friendly.

Closing Thoughts

We built Flight because we saw too many agencies overpaying for tools they didn’t fully use. By combining SendGrid’s proven infrastructure with our agency-focused design, we created something that’s simple, fast, and budget-friendly.

If you’re tired of complex pricing and feature bloat, Flight is ready for takeoff with you.

Great transparency in sharing the pricing and product decisions here. Removing per-contact fees makes a lot of sense for agencies and small teams that send in bursts rather than daily. I also like how you kept the feature set focused instead of overloading it early. Curious what deliverability challenges you faced when scaling volume?

  2. 2

Really like how Flight takes a “less is more” approach. Keeping pricing predictable and features focused solves a real pain point for agencies that just want reliability without the bloat. Excited to see how the segmentation roadmap plays out.

  3. 2

Really smart how you identified the problem so clearly and built a solution around it, that’s awesome.

  4. 2

I recently tried instantly.ai - how are you guys different?

    1. 1

We offer higher email sending capacity without limiting by contact at very less price. An affordable email marketing alternative to Instantly.io

  5. 2

Do you offer unlimited email warming and email validation? other email automatio tools provides that included in the pricing.

    1. 1

Not at this stage @panama, but we will see how many users need it.

  6. 2

Love how Flight flips the pricing model—charging for emails sent, not contacts stored, directly addresses the biggest pain agencies face. What really stands out to me is the restraint in not over-bloating the tool; from a UX and email engagement perspective, simplicity isn’t just a design choice —it’s a deliverability win. Curious to see how agencies respond once you roll out segmentation—often the sweet spot between affordability and high ROI.

Thank you @afaf123, appreciate your feedback!

      1. 1

Really curious how you’ll handle segmentation without losing simplicity. Will it be more automated or give agencies manual control?

        1. 1

Flight supports lists, segments, and tags. When you segment, you can segment based on:

          1. List
          2. Tags
          3. Campaign Events.

That makes it easier for users to segment contacts. We don't have complex segmenting available yet but open for user feedback on the same.

          1. 1

Love that you have kept segmentation simple, as it removes friction for new users. From a UX perspective, clarity always wins early on. Have you noticed if users are requesting behaviour-based segments, such as engagement, click history, or more profile-driven ones? The way you frame and guide those options through copy and UX can really shape how people adopt them

            1. 1

We are at the starting point and will collect user feedback and drive this through the user needs.

              1. 1

Early feedback is gold. The real challenge is translating it into copy and UX that truly reflect user needs. How are you planning to capture and act on those insights? Happy to take a quick look at your landing copy and share ideas if that would help.

  7. 2

Have you considered having a "starter" pack, for eg $9/month and eg 1000 emails?

    1. 1

Thank you for your feedback. Sendgrid offers minimal plan - Email API Essential which offers 50k emails at $20/month. This tool uses that plan, so most users with lower sending needs might not see it suitable.

But if I have enough audience, we can offer it.

  8. 2

I think it actually takes courage to remove features. How do you respond to requests from existing customers for additional features?

    1. 1

We are at the very beginning of the product life cycle. So, it's not a challenge yet. But going minimal will be part of our strategy for sure.

  9. 2

that is great i will use this tool

    1. 1

Thank you, register for early access and will get you a trial as soon as possible.

  10. 2

ohh that great mate ! i check your tool can you explain me how its different from Mailchimp ?

    1. 1

Mailchimp is mailchimp. So many features. So many use cases. So much to understand.

Flight is simple. Only 1 use case. Send marketing emails to your target audience. No contact base billing. No complicated features. Basic product. clear value.

      1. 2

Thats great explaination mate ! we also follow this approach for my product Teamcamp - we have so many competitors but our tool is perfect fit for agency so we approach only to them . i surely explore your tool , thanks mate

        1. 1

Absolutely, happy to support Teamcamp in anyway I can! Cheers!

  11. 2

Clean idea. Two quick questions. Do you send on shared IPs or offer dedicated with warm up, and do you guide SPF, DKIM, and DMARC setup. I would add per client suppression lists and a simple abuse guard that blocks risky cold sends. Pricing seems fair but the margin over SendGrid is thin at this volume, how will you cover support and deliverability work within that price.

    1. 1

The SPF, DKIM, and DMARC will be added at the time of domain authentication.
Pricing do not include Sendgrid charges. You will need Sendgrid's Email API Essential plan that will cost you $20/month allowing 50k emails.

I'm not worried about margins as the product is simple stupid and we want to sell it to many needing a simple solution without complicating marketing messages, UX and product value.

      1. 1

Appreciate the clarity on auth and that SendGrid is separate. A simple in app cost calculator would help teams budget. I would add per client suppression lists, a basic abuse guard for risky cold sends, and a warmup preset for new domains. Happy to try it when ready.(Can't register for some reason, it's saying Admin user not found)

By the way, we could partner up. I am building HustleAdvisor, a social network for entrepreneurs. If you join the waitlist, at launch you could publish a short post about building Flight on our platform and we will boost it in the main feed so more people see it.

        You get: more users
We get: an entrepreneur on board
