How We Found Product-Market Fit by Actually Listening
Here's the thing about building products - sometimes the best features come from the most unexpected conversations. I'm the founder of Mokkup.ai, and this is the story of how we discovered an untapped need in the design-to-analytics pipeline, simply by paying attention to what our users weren't saying.
Just Another Design Tool?
When we first launched Mokkup.ai, we were focused on being "yet another design tool" in an already crowded market. Our initial users were designers, BI devs, Data Analysts and product managers who needed to create dashboard mockups quickly. But something interesting kept happening during our user interviews.
The Hidden Pattern We Almost Missed
During our regular feedback calls, users would casually mention their "after-design" workflow. They'd create beautiful mockups in our tool, export them... and then spend hours manually recreating these designs in their BI tools like Power BI and Tableau. It wasn't even framed as a complaint - they had accepted this as "just the way things are."
The Lightbulb Moment
It hit us: the design-to-analytics gap was a massive pain point that nobody was addressing. Designers and analysts were living in completely separate worlds, leading to:
- Lost time in manual recreation of designs
- Inconsistencies between mockups and final dashboards
- Friction in the handoff process
Building in Public: Our Beta Journey
We decided to tackle this challenge head-on. But instead of disappearing for months to build the perfect solution, we:
- Created a simple one-click export feature
- Released it in beta for all of our users
- Currently, iterating based on real-world usage

The biggest lesson? Sometimes, product-market fit isn't about building something revolutionary - it's about removing a friction that people have gotten so used to, they don't even complain about it anymore.
