How we got 10,000+ visitors to our startup using lead magnets 🚀

Hey guys,

I and @sathesh95 decided to build LaunchPedia at the start of this year.

A website where startup founders and solopreneurs can find resources for their product launch.

We knew that SEO and social media (our socials are not big enough) will take time to show the results.

So here's what we did instead to get traffic in the first 3-4 months

We built Lead Magnets

Lead Magnets are digital products (an ebook or a guide or a Template) that you build and distribute for free to attract your target audience towards your website.

We both had experience building lead magnets while working at our 9-5 jobs, so we got the idea of bringing it to our indie hacking journey.

So here's what we did. We built 3 lead magnets for LaunchPedia.

1) Reddit Launch Ebook: A collection of the best subreddits to Promote a startup and over 30+ post templates for founders to share their startup on Reddit.

2) Product Hunt Launch Guide: We put together all the interviews we did for LaunchPedia into an ebook as a comprehensive product Hunt launch guide.

3) Places to Promote a Startup: A directory of 75+ places to Promote a startup for free.

We built one lead magnet each month.

And here's how we used these lead magnets to bring traffic to LaunchPedia consistently:

1) Launched it on Product Hunt:

Product Hunt is filled with tech enthusiasts and startup founders who are always looking for a new resource or growth hack to give them a bit of an edge over others. And our lead magnets are exactly made for them.

So we created a launch page for each of our lead magnets, promoted the launch for a week and then launched it on Product Hunt. We got 4,300+ visitors to our website from Product Hunt launches. Not just that, we used to get 100+ signups to our newsletter from each launch.

2) Shared it on online forums and communities:

Founders hate Reddit and communities because even if you share just a few lines about your SaaS or try to Promote it, you might End up getting banned. But you can get around it with Lead magnets.

We repurposed our ebook into a blog post or a directory and shared them on Reddit with a link to it. Since it was completely free and had no bs, the lead magnets got picked up on Reddit without any takedowns and brought traffic to LaunchPedia.

We got 5,600+ Visitors from sharing on online communities and subreddits.

3) Grow our email list

The only way to bring consistent traffic and new users to your website is by growing your email list. Because out of 100 visitors who come to your site 50 or more might never even come back again.

So, we used the lead magnet on our website like this:

a. Added an exit intent popup: We added the Product Hunt launch guide and Reddit Ebooks as exit-intent popups with a subscriber form to our website.

b. Added download forms: We added a download pdf form on our directory pages and blog posts. So, people who want to check out the content later, can download the content as an ebook and read it later.

With these, we were able to get 500+ subscribers in just a week's time who are now part of our newsletter and our sales automation.

4) Social Media Giveaway
Social media giveaways are a great way to increase your social media following and downloads of your product.

So, we gave away our Reddit ebook on Twitter and Linkedin to whoever comments and retweets our posts. This brought us 100 downloads in less than 24 hours for our lead magnets.

By building lead magnets and plugging LaunchPedia's products and services within them,

We were able to bring traffic and revenue for LaunchPedia even without any SEO support or paid ads.

Now, What?

Since this lead magnet strategy worked for us, we wanted to do this as a service and help other founders to bring traffic and users to their websites.

So, we launched GrowthChefs this week.

Where we'll Analyse your SaaS, research your target audience, ideate and build a highly converting lead magnet to get new users for a one-time fee.

Checkout GrowthChefs and let us know what you think about it

I think Growth Chefs is a great idea for a company! It's especially difficult for new founders to find and engage with their initial audience, but it seems like your team has cracked the code. Nice work!

Love this! Is it just a free site? Or do you make money somehow?

All the resources are free. However, we will make money through

      1. Sponsorships and
      2. Digital products

Great! keep going. I'm actually focusing on building a good amount of awareness on Reddit. My strategy is simple, I create more valuable posts ( 5 or something without links) and then share one posts that contain a link to my product.

    The List is awesome!
I've started promoting my tool (http://www.pastencopy.online) there, and seen immediate results. I've just started with it, but referrals are now my biggest traffic sources.
Its a beat hard too me to create other magnets, due to the nature of my tool

Thanks man, It's great to know that you are getting good traffic by this strategy.
