How we got 1400+ people help us price a pre-launch product (step-by-step)

Pricing a pre-launch product can be hard. The only benchmark you have are your competitors out there who are well established.

I spent quite some time trying to find resources online but very few apply to digital products that are in waitlist.

We took the following steps over the course of 8 months to find the sweet spot for our early release plan:

  1. Started building your audience early on
  2. Involved our early users in key decisions
  3. Conducted a pricing research via survey
  4. Did a competitor research
  5. Asked people with more experience and knowledge

1400+ people completed the pricing survey providing a ton of insights. Stats in the picture excludes early alpha users – why it is just short of 1400.

This process worked well for us and I wanted to share our learnings with other founders who might be struggling with the same problem.

    This is a great write up! Did you find much difference between what people said in the price survey vs what they were actually willing to pay?

      Alex, we're now collecting responses via an application form. We plan to release the early access in September. However, there was on average 60% difference between those who used the product vs those haven't yet. It was higher for the users – which is probably good. Is that what you meant by your question?
