How we got our first 1,000 beta signups

Leveraging your competitors' Twitter followers to reach potential users and investors is a clever strategy. It's great that you were able to not only get signups but also have valuable conversations with industry professionals. What other channels or tactics are you considering to continue growing your user base?

I think the product has been discontinued. All the get started links return a 404. https://www.meetric.app/

      1. 2

true, you are right, it's not loading live meeting board for me as well

      2. 1

        Hmm, it’s working for me.

Hey guys - I'm the co-founder of meetric and the author of the article, thanks for all the positive comments. Unfortunately, we closed down Meetric last year - if you want to know more and hear some of the lessons, I wrote this post about it: https://ph-boudet.medium.com/i-failed-my-first-startup-100-lessons-learned-8f31473c9ca6

Interesting... it looks as though the product is no longer available. Are you affiliated with the company?

Some pragmatic tips in the post but would be curious to know what happened to the product.

I agree that twitter is a great place to get started looking for beta users. That was how I found a lot of the target users for my SaaS product

I use hivoe to automate twitter outreach: https://www.hivoe.com/

And also tweetniche to niche down to my target audience: https://tweetniche.com/

These tools have saved up a lot of my time and I highly recommend it to people trying to find their first few beta users through twitter cold dm outreach!

Thanks for sharing, I am still having trouble getting a lot of traffic for my website

What are you working on Jasper?

        1. 1

This is super interesting! Where is this based and what are the ways in which you are attracting users to your website or app?

          1. 2

I built it from home (The Netherlands) and I don't have any marketing yet. I first want to create the Android app before I start to actively attract users :)

Awesome, best to speak to alot of potential customers and understand how to best approach them. I am based in new york and we had a really amazing neighborhood app do a genius marketing strategy in our residential buildings. Happy to chat further and tell you what my experience with that app was.

              1. 1

Alright that sounds cool! What was the app called? Is it still a thing?

                1. 1

It's called One Roof. Yes, they're still active but not sure what the traction is like.

                  1. 1

Also, Saturday - these are not similar to what you do, they're just in the adjacent domain so no competitive threat just interesting ideas for you to explore.

Lots of great strategies here. Loved how you used automated twitter outreach to convert your competitor followers into leads. Cool stuff 🔥FYI, I recently curated a list of 50+ places to promote a startup for free. I'm just dropping it here so you'll find some more good Startup communities to talk about Meetric:

    Thank you once again!!

here's an issue on your homepage when you're trying to demo it where it says

More useful tips here than most posts like this. Usually it is just "had one post on Reddit get a ton of views". Thanks for the help Pavati.

Really good blog and useful links, thank you for sharing.

Very interesting, I noted the "follow the Twitter followers of competitors" advice. That's a simple yet really great idea.

Phantombuster #3 employee and ex marketing guy here: I love how you used PB to search and extract profiles within your niche. You mention not finding the emails: You ca use either PB's own "email discovery" service or dropcontact.io to enrich profiles as you extract them! Easy and efficient, especially for a tech-savvy audience like yours.

Not affiliated with either tool anymore, but I always love to see people using them sucessfully!

Thanks for the write-up, that was great. I really liked the insight about the Twitter follower outreach.

I used to work in the Sydney Startup Hub building as well, are you staying in the Antler office still or looking for other space?

Real world reports like this one is why I am on indiehackers. Thank you!
My take away: I will start with Linkedin & Twitter outreach (what a great idea)!

    Well explained strategy :)

Very clever strategies. Thank you for sharing

Thanks for this post, very helpful and it will probably save us some money for Ads haha 🙂

  17. 1

That twitter strategy is really useful. Thanks!

This is super helpful - thanks so much!

Funny how despite its current popularity among teenagers, Twitter still struggles to generate leads, unlike Facebook. thank you for the useful tips, you gained a new follower.

Looks like a slick product, I don't have a huge use for it right now as I'm not in a lot of meetings in my job. There's an issue on your homepage when you're trying to demo it where it says
"Meetric is no longer available" which turned me off as I'd like to try it out right there.

Really love your software. I’ve been a R&D project manager and I can tell you for sure that great note-taking can make a difference. Nevertheless, most people aren’t that good at it and it can be frustrating when working with many stakeholders.
Also, I really appreciate your post. It has great content and insights which I find very valuable. It can help people save time to focus on what really works. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Great post detailing your customer acquisition strategy. I have clapped and followed your Medium account.

Going to research PhantomBuster this weekend and see how I can automate Twitter and LinkedIn outreach.

I think you can improve your Google Ads strategy and get much better results:

    • Maximize conversions campaign
    • Broad keyword match (for the most popular keyword)
    • Improve your landing page (copy your top competitors)

And then just let the campaign run and figure itself out! It takes a bit to bring your CPA down. You may have given up too early.

Really appreciate this - very actionable! Thanks for sharing.

  26. 1

Super interesting, what kind of rate of the signups converted into ideal/target users?

  27. 1

Super helpful post and strategy. You're the type of 'building in public' person I like to follow as you actually give useful info.

  28. 1

Brilliant post. So specific and therefore super helpful. I hate posts that just talk generally about things without any examples or use cases. Thanks very much for sharing your insights.

  29. 1

I like that you also included all the stuff that didn't work.

And happy to see Reddit used well, it's still super underrated. I recommend not just creating new posts but also finding relevant posts and comments from different people and getting involved.

This strategy works super well if you find relevant stuff. Surfkey.io by @JohanCutych is a awesome for this.
