How we made $500+ even before the launch — the story of drotion

Hey fellow builders 👋🏻,

You can make money before building the complete product. You can generate interest in your audience and open pre-orders for your product. This is exactly what we did for Drotion. We made $532 from Drotion pre-orders in less than 2 weeks and this is exactly what we did 👇🏻

Product Overview

Drotion(https://drotion.xyz/) is a drag and drop landing page builder, that lets you build landing pages right inside Notion. No code/design skills needed.

Drotion's Pre-Order Journey

Step 1: Announcement: When we decided to build a landing page builder on Notion, we shared it on Twitter and Facebook groups.

Step 2: Build in Public: Once we started building components, we've shared them on twitter and Facebook groups.

Step 3: Waitlist: We've built a waitlist landing page and added that link to all our Build in Public Tweets and FB posts.

Step 4: Landing page template: As a lead magnet, we've built a landing page template and given it for free to our Twitter and FB audience.

With all these, we're able to generate interest, build a waitlist and also reached the target audience.

And then comes the final act of the play.

Opened Pre-orders

  1. We've built a pre-order landing page using Drotion and integrated it with Gumroad for checkout.
  2. Then we've sent the first pre-order mail to all the waitlisted audiences. We made 13 sales from it.
  3. Then we've sent another mail to the customers who bought the Landing page template. We made 9 sales from it.
  4. After a week, we've sent a FOMO mail to all our Email list (Waitlist+Landing Page template buyers) saying that pre-orders are ending soon and prices will be increased later. We made 6 sales from it.

In total, we made 28 sales and $532 before launch.

Closing Thoughts

This is how we're able to generate sales before even shipping the final product.

What I want to say, is you shouldn't wait for the complete product, then launch it and then promote it. You can promote your product while building itself.

I believe building in public is the best way to generate curiosity and interest in your audience before launching your product.

So, if you've successfully created interest in your audience about your product, you can open pre-orders and start making some money before the launch. Not just sales, Pre-orders make you more responsible to launch your product without delay and they also help you find issues with your messaging on the landing page/pricing/product before the launch.

These are my learnings from Drotion Pre-orders.
What do you think about it? Do let me know in the comments.
