We soft-launched InviteMe.app a few weeks ago. InviteMe links to your Google Calendar and allows guests to invite themselves to your Google Calendar event, instead of you having to ask\find the correct email (which becomes even more of a problem when you have >1 guest).
We generated an MVP with two use-funnels:
In both cases, you are then generated a URL for a custom event page and guests can then simply navigate over to that page, browse the event details and add their email which would be added directly to your Google Calendar event.
Hypothesis 1 - Users would rather use the Chrome Extension rather than the mobile-web route: We assumed that the more intuitive route is the Chrome Extension since the user only needs to press the share button on an already created event. Moreover, since this is an MVP, the mobile funnel is really bare-boned. You can't at the moment share an existing event - you must create a new event.
Hypothesis 2 - Virality factor would be key here: Since users are generating an event page and sharing it with their guests, there would be inherent virality.
Hypothesis 1: Despite the above friction, our users clearly favored the mobile-web funnel. In the end, their use mostly came when on their phones, and that trumped everything.
Hypothesis 2: We did in fact see inherent sharing & virality caused by the nature of the product.
We're going to be shifting our focus towards enhancing the mobile offering and making sharing even easier. Getting the message of what we do across in a more clear fashion to users that are exposed to us for the first time.
Adding above-the-fold explanations for the mobile Invited flow, clearer homepage messaging & more.
Caveat: We did not yet grow into a robust enough scale for the above to be super strong conclusions, so we're taking everything with a grain of salt.
