How would you explain what's UX to a 90-year-old?

I find hard to explain what is the job for an UX to anyone outside the tech world.

Well, in the tech world also sometimes it'is difficult to explain.

So how would you explain what's UX to someone totally out of there?

UX has existed before - it is just a new naming for it.

For example, you may try to explain with a supermarket concept. How do we know where products are located? Where to pick a bag for our products? Where to pay? It all makes our buying experience. If we improve it - it will be easier to navigate and increase purchases.

I hope it will be helpful!

For an actual 90 year old. Walk them through the history of the telephone and the improvements that have been made on how you interact with it. Sure technology advances enabled the improvements in user experience. But now grandma can just say to call someone versus typing on large old people keypad on a phone, or using a rotary dial. Each step improved how we interact with it. You specialize in making it easier and easier to perform a task or reach a goal.

I like this one! Explaining with a little history is the better way I think.

I use airports for this type of discussion. How do we get you to your boarding gate as effectively as possible? So many things go into it...the design of the airport, where you're starting out, where you're trying to go, how the signs are placed, where the stores are, etc. Good UX makes the difference between a frustrating trip to the airport and a pleasant one!

Nice example! Very easy to visualize it beacuse of the airport.

UX is just a new term for great customer service :)

      That's a very good one!

UX existed long before what we think of as the tech world, so I would explain it much like anything else to anyone else: find out what is relatable between you, the idea, and the person and use terms they are familiar with.

Yeah, user experiences have been for a long time!
