How would you market this product?

Just as the title says, how would you market this product if you were the one building it?

You just did brother :) keep doing that. “Build in public” via posts like this one here, twitter, linkedin, reddit etc. to build a following, do cold outreach and if you have cash for marketing try advertising on newsletters and maybe social ads…. But what do I know, I’m in my underwear.

Hey, two quick ideas from me:

    1. You can try lunch it on AppSumo
    2. Create affiliate program and find 10-20 small (1-5K sub) YT channel in your niche and try to cooperate with them based on your affiliate program
3.Create couple case study for other businesses and send them your result - maybe if they like it they could use it in exchange for promoting your product on their socials
    3. After first sales, use that money to experiment with paid adds (other newsletters, Twitter post, google adds etc)

    Good luck!

    Hey Akash.

Love what you've done with your webpage so far, the design is super cool. The product is great too and definitely makes people's lives easier.

    I would suggest the following:

    Improve the webpage copy:

    • Create a clear heading which makes a bold claim and addresses objections.

    Something like:

"There’s a new way to produce stunning product videos."

Support this with a subheader which shows how the product works:

"Slant enables exceptional video production in minutes, through a simple drag-and-drop builder. All from your browser."

A second idea plays on the problem users are facing and offers the solution:

"Stop wasting time on expensive video editing."

    Subheader:
"Produce stunning videos the new way through our simple drag-and-drop builder."

The aim is to sell the benefits, call out your target audience, reduce friction and address objections.

I would also suggest adding some testimonials above the fold and also AB testing a demo video and images to the side of the hero section.

Your CTA is great: clearly shows the next step and de-risks it for users.

Through the rest of the page, build on what you have by showing key features in a format such as:

    • Key feature image
    • key feature benefit
    • Address potential objections.

I've made an initial mock-up to visualise this here:
    https://www.figma.com/file/3GyL4poesRvOieleef0LKW/Slant?type=design&node-id=1%3A38&t=ZmfMVhP6Ga2BlGHy-1

In terms of growth ideas, once you've made copy edits, I would suggest:

    • Organic search traffic: use your blog posts to capture traffic from people searching for hassle-free video editing solutions. Research keywords and find a gap. Capturing emails and nurturing them through an auto-responder sequence and regular newsletter will boost results
    • Spread the message in communities such as Reddit, Facebook groups & Indie Hackers: search for posts from people having problems which your product can solve. Add some value then slide in your product link as a solution
    • Launch on places like product hunt
    • If you have a budget, consider paid ads such as Facebook ads or newsletter shoutouts
    • Build in public on here, Twitter & LinkedIn.

You can find out where your target audience is hanging out using tools like Spark Toro.

Hope this helps and if you want to chat further let me know :)

    Best
    Tom

Wow, thank you so much Tom for taking out time and providing such a thorough analysis with actionable suggestions. I'll try them out for sure!

There's already some great advice here. So i'll skip the basics...

#1. I noticed you don't have a blog. Organically attract product owners, developers, and marketers, etc... through building up topical authority on product marketing and showcasing. This may take some time, so it's important that you start building this now while the other tactics are in play in these early days. The one thing that will certainly NOT change about SEO is that websites with a thorough coverage of any given topic will be found more than websites with no topical coverage. So if you want to turn your website from a brochure to a marketing magnet, I suggest you get in on the SEO game. :)

Ok, now I'll try to stretch my imagination a bit to offer something a little out of the box... I'm assuming you're already crushing paid strategies (like PPC), Community forums like this one, and you're going to start building your social media footprint...

Enhance these tactics by leveraging in-person events organized by Startup Incubators. Find these in-person meetups/events and focus your community engagement around them.

    1. Spark insightful conversations on their forums as the event's buzz begins to build.
    2. Target your ppc ads to these areas
    3. Go a little old school with some direct mail campaigns?
    4. Earned media - can you get on a podcast or youtube channel related to the event?
    5. bite the bullet and pay to advertise during these events

Ok... there's some spaghetti on the wall. Good luck!

Thanks a lot, the blog suggestion was good. Even I was considering this but couldn't see the value in doing it now.

      1. 2

I hear ya! Hard to justify it in the beginning until you realize: #1. how powerful organic reach is in attracting and keeping attention of your ICPs, and #2. How long it takes to see the dividends of your hard work.

    Congratulations on the product launch:
-You Can find the new product launches on Product Hunt, Beta List, indie hackers and Beta Pages check their website and find out their emails. Then you can directly pitch your product to them via email. In case you are unable to find their respective emails try emailing help/info@domainname.
-In my opinion, Reddit is a gold mine you can use subreddits like r/saas,r/sideproject and other such subreddits.
-You can also use apollo.io to find emails of the target audience and pitch them your product via Email.

A friendly Feedback as per your business name you have designed a slant website but certain sections like testimonials can be neater.

Best of luck with your Product

      Thanks for those tips!

A friendly Feedback as per your business name you have designed a slant website but certain sections like testimonials can be neater.

Anything specific that you find off in the testimonials section?

      1. 1

It looked a bit unstructured to me but again that's my personal opinion.

    2. 1

What would you improve about apollo? I’m building a competing product and would love your insights :)

      1. 1

        Hey,
-Appolo currently has a limit of 5 pages or 125 records limit for the free tier that can be increased up to at least 250 records at least.
-Appolo Contains a few Businesses that do not have a website URL or contact details of any single employee that can be improved.
-Apart from that if you ask me it is a near perfect product.

Best of luck with your product would love to hear about it once it's ready to use

        1. 1

Thanks a lot. You have earned beta tester access brother I’ll give you an account as as soon as I have the MVP ready.

          1. 1

Cheers brother look forward to using your tool

My recommendation would be to use a stylish/subtle brand on the free/trial access of the product, so that every time someone exports their video and shares it social it says produced using slant it.

The second thing is to give x% off your existing paying customer base subscription for any referrals. Use the people that love your product to get more like them.

    Hope this helps

    1. 1

There is a watermark on the video exports by Slant it, but yes it's not styled like the rest of the brand.
Referrals is nice, do you know how it would work for products that are one-time purchase?

      Thanks!

      1. 1

It could work the same way. If user 1 pays $100 a year and refers 10 people ($5 per referral) they then pay $50 on next sub.

  7. 1

I'd start by making the landing page a bit less "busy" - I found it a bit hard to figure out what the product actually does.

In terms of marketing, apart from the great advice here I'd probably start by making a bunch of videos for other people's products and share them on twitter.

    Good luck!

    1. 1

      Thanks for the tips!

  8. 1
    1. Identify the target lets say indiehackers
    2. Find out where they hangout lets say twitter.
    3. Follow all the indiehackers who are creating a product but either don't have a video on their landing page or are in the process of creating a page.
    4. Tweet regularly about how easy it is to create video to showcase the product.
    5. DM them about your tool and provide some discount or make first video free.
say thank you if you get the first sale ;-) just kidding.

Hi Akash. Who is an ideal buyer?

  10. 1

Hi Akash. From my past experiences, what is best for you in start is launch your product on product hunt and push it hard there. surely you will get a best result there.

    1. 1

Hi Rana, thanks for the suggestion. I get launching on product hunt, but what do you mean by "pushing it hard there"?

      1. 2

Push it hard mean start approaching hunters there and ask us to support your product.

        1. 2

Got it, thank you Rana :)
