How would you monetize a low-frequency but still-valuable tool?
I'm building a product that exports from Notion to a variety of different formats, including Markdown, HTML and PDF. (Wait, doesn't Notion already do this? Not with the features I can offer: exporting a page full of child pages into one concatenated document (Markdown, HTML or PDF) as well as offer customization options (custom CSS for different elements like Header 1, 2, 3, callout/blockquote, etc.)).
My research so far indicates that exporting from Notion is a relatively low-frequency operation, but when it is used, the options I can offer are valuable. So how would you monetize this?
It doesn't seem to lend itself to a standard $x/month SaaS. Instead I've been contemplating something more along the lines of $1/export, but I'm not sure what an elegant way of offering this is. Buy batches of tokens? That seems strange to me.
pay as you go should be the model and you should define limits of export for e.g.
20 files per dollar or something like that so that actual revenue depends on number of files exported.

Right—My concern with a forever-license is that the tool consumes the Notion API which could conceivably become non-free in the future, meaning a monthly cost. Plus server hosting would possibly eventually start costing money too...
Could also sell 50 exports for $20 or something along those lines
yeah this idea of fixed cost per batch is ideal for this.. alternatively keep it free for individual customers (limiting the usage or putting wait time etc) and sell to businesses
Just an idea. You can provide the export feature for free BUT before export starts you can show some ads and force a user to wait let's say 30 seconds then download. If someone wants instant exports he/she should pay monthly.
$20 a month or something. Let them cancel if they are not using it. Maybe let them purchase one month at a time?
