How You Play Call of Duty is How You Play Life.

I have a theory which I keep self validating:

“How you play Call of Duty, is how you play life”

Why would I say this?

You have several types of players in call of duty.

If you don’t play Call of Duty or have never heard of it, this might not make sense. But bare with me.

Common types of players in Call of Duty. Note if you recognise any type in real life.

Campers - who stay in one spot the whole game and clip targets as they run by. Usually have a low to medium score. They are risk averse, seeking self preservation above top points and zero desire to collectively help the team win. The thrill of it “being easy” is probably a core motivator.

Snipers - also risk averse and the pain of being killed hurts greater, but have found an efficient way to rack up kill streaks from a distance. Snipers also get sniped. They don’t feel like running too much. Mid way to high points.

Pushers - take each moment as it comes, pushing through the map to get the most kills and high scores. May occupy a spot on the map for a while before moving on. Use a lot of mental energy to do this. Medium to high score.

My personal favourite:

The run and gunner - usually has the most kills & points, but will likely have the highest number of deaths or “failures” in the game too ie. trying to defuse a bomb when the clock is running out. Brute force is the way for them to win.

Back to my original statement:

How does playing call of duty make me a better entrepreneur?

The great thing about playing video games, is that you can spectate from another human beings point of view ie when eliminated. You can not only learn from others mistakes, but you learn from their wins - right through a person’s mind or “view port”.

I’ve noticed about myself in entrepreneurship and in Call of Duty, I fail a lot, I run and gun the hell out of maps that take up all my energy, but I usually get a high to highest score. It makes me feel better knowing that perseverance, speed and accuracy is the way to succeed and get a “high score”. I’ve also realised the importance on knowing not to ever hesitate when taking a shot!

Really, Indie Hackers should have a thread dedicated to posts only from Entrepreneurs who have built a company with ARR above $1m that people can learn from, so people can see through these folks’ “viewport”

Just my thoughts.

What other types of parallels in video games do you see in real life or entrepreneurship?

You're right! In COD , you not only need to be able to shoot, everyone shoots well at the professional level, but only those who can think to win, do you agree? However, I do not follow the scene in COD so much. I like to trade skins more https://truecost.gg/cod_vanguard/item/panzerfaust_gold_camo_unlock. But now, it has become much easier to sell and exchange skins because sites allow you to do this. And some people earn a lot of money on trading.

    Interesting thought.
Not sure about IH, but some time ago I found this twitter List of 10k+ MRR founders which is similar to what you suggested.

The analogy is a bit stretched but I understood what you're saying with the call-of-duty playstyles.
