Six weeks into building Trakly. 6 organic users, zero paid spend, zero formal launch.
I kept seeing the "launch on Product Hunt" advice everywhere and almost followed it blindly.
Then someone in a Reddit comment said something that reframed everything:
"Launch boards are a one-day pop. Daily presence where your ICP already complains is the 90-day compound. Most founders quit at week 3 because the first 10 comments get zero upvotes. The actual signal shows up around comment 40."
That hit hard.
So instead of optimizing for a launch day I:
Showed up daily on Twitter in personal finance threads
Posted honest build updates on Reddit and IH
Built a no-signup demo to remove the first friction point
Let people find it on their own
6 organic users who found Trakly without being pushed to it tells me something a launch spike can't, that the pull is real, even if it's small.
The 1000 users in 48 hours Product Hunt posts are survivorship bias. You only hear from the ones it worked for. The hundreds it didn't work for don't post about it.
Still pre-revenue. Still building. But the foundation feels right.
What's your experience been with launches vs organic? Did the spike convert or just feel good for a day?
