I am joining the building-in-public club (with a twist).

I've been irregularly tinkering on a side project for the past few months: Good Tendency.

In short: The app takes advantage of financial accountability. You create a habit and decide on any amount of money to pledge. When you manually start one of your habits, you are charged the chosen amount. If you finish the habit within 24 hours, you get your money back. If you don't, you've lost it, and hopefully, will do better next time.

Apart from technical reasons, I have not yet used the app to change my behavior. I'm pretty sure you agree with me if I say that's fundamentally wrong. If I won't use it, why should other people use it?

Therefore, I'm going to do two things:

  1. Start building Good Tendency in public. Mainly on my Twitter. Regular updates about feature development, marketing, maybe a bit of app store SEO, what I do to find users, etc. Follow me, if that sounds cool.
  2. As part of building in public, I will start using Good Tendency in public. For that, I've chosen the most ambitious challenge possible for me to take on: Wake up at 6 am for 60 days. There is a dedicated post here on IH where I talk a bit about why this challenge terrifies me, and a fun story on the side. Anyway - I've created a Twitter thread to keep track of the challenge. Every day before 6:15 am, I will be posting a photo of my watch and a beverage of my choice. If the tweet isn't up in time, Good Tendency will charge me $5 (that's for each day). The total amount amassed at the end of the 60 days I'll give away to a local animal shelter.

Thoughts, ideas, critic, questions, and follows - all welcome ;)

This is nice!!! I am all for using your own products.

The idea of the product does seem very interesting. I'm going to follow it here on IH. 👍🏾
