I am starting a development agency on a monthly recurring model!

Hi everyone,

I am a web developer with experience in some of the world's top companies. Today I am launching my own development agency, Kinematic Labs. I focus on robotics and biotech but happy to work with any Indie Hacker given how much this community has inspired me. I am also inspired by Brett from DesignJoy who I found about from an Indie Hackers podcast episode.

i took a peek on your site ...

Don't you think that the button "Our work" should say "Services" ?

"Our work" is when you have something to show to your potential clients like a portfolio. :)

Thanks for the comment, I'll find a better descriptor!

Other than that, did you like/dislike anything?

"We develop elegant, functional user interfaces for the world’s most innovative robotics & biotech companies"

Can you name some of companies and put them on site ? It helps giving credibility.

Become aware that when you put "robotics & biotech companies" you are limiting the range of your clients. :)

I think you're gonna meet a business bottleneck at some point, pretty soon. I don't see how you can/could scale this. Don't get me wrong, the idea is cool but it does not scale with software but rather, with people. And this makes it not scalable.

Any thoughts on how you're gonna circumvent this? I would really love to hear you out (no worries, I'm not building anything even remotely similar) I'm just curious and wanna have a nice conv. with you.

    Cheers and good luck!

The key is in the subscription. The guy behind DesignJoy.co makes $1M/year working solo, why can't I?

Designing is completely different from developing software. Paying 5k for design is okay, when you are sure the design is well thought. But why would I pay 6000 dollar a month, for someone who will maybe work max 10 hours a week for me.

For that amount of money you can hire a worker full time in many countries. (Even in West Europe)

    hey @nimmy!

massive congrats on starting your own thing.

I took a look at your site and I think you should focus on just one LP instead of multiple pages, and try to explain what you do with visual communication instead of text, it's easier to digest.

Be cautious about doing development subscriptions, it's not as "easy" as design services. Simple things sometimes take way more time than expected and you'll have to manage clients expectations, etc.

One last thing, money back guarantee => Stay away from that.

    Best of luck man!

Can you expand on "visual communications"? What can I use besides text and examples of my work (which is what I am working on right now)?

      1. 1

Instead of so much text add visuals, screenshots of the UIs you build, etc. Entertain the visitor and tell the story through images.
