I am starting a new product but stuck on design.

I hate designing things. I mainly hate it because I am bad at it and it is time consuming.

I created a web app before (ideavault.dev) and the main advice I got for that was to create a landing page. So I decided for my new product to create a landing page first and update it as I develop my MVP.

This leaves me stuck figuring out what design I want to go with for my landing page. I have a rough idea of what I want it to say. As I am typing this I remember some advice I got awhile ago where they recommended writing the copy first then design the layout.

So I guess I will give that a go but still when it comes to design I absolutely hate doing it.

Do any of you have any actionable advice on how to create a simple decently effective landing page?

I'm a big fan of cruip.com and currently use one on pivalink.com. They have both free (https://cruip.com/free-templates/) and paid themes that are available and are geared towards products for the most part. In my opinion, they are really helpful because it lets me focus on my product and not worry too much about my landing page (except for the copy itself).

If that's not something you're looking for, I have also used dribbble.com in the past for inspiration, which I also find really helpful not only for landing page inspiration, but also for inspiration around how I design my apps.

    Hope that helps a bit!

Hi Bobby, I believe I can help you design good landing pages, keeping both functionality and design in mind. If you are looking for freelancer feel free to reach out. Cheers

I found this really helpful for writing landing page copy and creating value propositions - https://www.julian.com/guide/growth/landing-pages

There are lots of html templates out there rather than trying to design one yourself - try fellow Indie Hacker Versoly for example - https://versoly.com/ - I think you can export what you build

Why don’t you simply use a template?
For the design/layout, here two great source of landing page inspiration:

I've just been doing a massive redesign although you wouldn't know it from the UI. On the one hand if say don't get stuck on UI/UX because a functional product is better than a beautiful product with glaring bugs. One of the quotes that shows while IH is loading is "your users are more forgiving than you think" and I think that is especially true in UI/UX.

On the other hand, planning for some scale will make your life easier later on. I love the idea of microservices, personally, because you can completely decouple the front and back ends and the front-end is just another app like a mobile app. By doing that it becomes much easier in the future to iterate your UI with touching the back-end, if you wish.

    Hope that helps,

Another idea I use is to Google key words and competitors around your product, then go to images. You'll quickly see patterns and the common elements your users will expect.
