I bootstrapped my startup from a DM. Here’s the story, the new features, and how I plan to actually make money.

Hey IH,

A few month ago, Startives was just an idea born out of my own frustration. I met my co-founder through an online platform—two strangers in different cities, trying to build something real.

The process was a mess. We juggled five different tools for communication, validation, and finding talent. I thought, "This should be easier."

That simple thought became our mission. We built Startives to be the all-in-one launchpad we wish we had.

Today, I want to share the full journey: where we came from, what we just shipped, and—the question every IndieHacker wants to know—our plan to go from pre-revenue to profitable.

The "Old" Foundation (The Core Features You Know)
First, a quick recap of what Startives was built on. These were the solutions to our initial problems:

Co-Founder Matching: An AI-powered system to connect "Visionaries" with "Builders," because finding the right partner is everything.
Project Showcasing: A place to tell the story of your project—the problem, the solution—not just list stats.
Micro-Exit Marketplace: A zero-commission space to sell your "dead" or small-revenue projects. Good code should never go to waste.
Startalks Social Feed: A community feed for real-time feedback and validation.
This was our V1. It solved the basic needs. But we knew the ecosystem needed a living, breathing heart.

The "New" Engine (What We Just Shipped)
Based on feedback from hundreds of builders, we've launched two game-changing features:

🚀 NEW FEATURE 1: Starverse - The Live Global Map of Builders

The old way was a static list of profiles. The new way is a live, interactive map.

What it is: A global view of founders and builders who are online right now. You can see a developer in Bangalore, a designer in Berlin, and a marketer in Brazil, all active at the same time.
Why it matters: It kills the feeling of isolation. It’s a "serendipity engine." You can discover your next co-founder not by searching, but by seeing who's working on a similar problem at 3 AM, just like you. It turns a boring directory into a vibrant digital campus.
🚀 NEW FEATURE 2: Role-Based Team Building

The old way was a generic "we're hiring" page.

What it is: On every project page, founders can now add specific, open roles like "Lead React Developer" or "Growth Marketer." Builders can apply directly through the platform.
Why it matters: It makes the process of building a team transparent and actionable. You're not just showcasing a project; you're actively inviting people to "Join the Build."
The Million-Dollar Question: How We Plan to Make Money
Alright, let's get to the real talk. We’ve been pre-revenue and zero-commission until now to build the community. That was phase one.

Phase two is sustainability. Here is our monetization strategy, broken down:

  1. The "Freemium" Model (Core remains free):

Free Tier: Everything you see now—showcasing projects, basic matching, community access—will always be free. A strong community is our biggest moat.
Pro Subscription (Startives Pro - Coming Soon): For power users. This will be a small monthly fee (~$15/mo) for features like:
Advanced AI Matching: Get priority suggestions for co-founders and roles.
Unlimited Role Postings: Post as many open roles as you need.
"Stealth Mode": Browse for co-founders or projects without showing your own profile publicly.
Deeper Analytics: See who’s viewing your project and from where.
2. The "Marketplace Success Fee" (Future Plan):

For the Micro-Exit Marketplace, we plan to introduce a small, success-based fee (e.g., 2-4%) on deals above a certain threshold (e.g., $5,000).
Why this is fair: It keeps small deals free, ensuring liquidity for indie hackers. We only make money when you make significant money. This aligns our incentives perfectly with our users.
We're not building a VC-backed unicorn that needs to squeeze every penny. We're building a sustainable, community-owned business for builders. The goal is to create more value than we capture.

This is our story, our latest work, and our transparent plan forward. I'd love to hear what the IH community thinks of this strategy.

Does this monetization model feel fair to you as a builder? Any red flags?
