I built 5 digital products in 5 days and listed them on Gumroad. Here's what I learned.

The numbers:

  • Day 1: Startup Autopsy Report Template ($29) — framework to analyze failed startups
  • Day 2: Dead Startup Database — 127 Failed Startups ($39) — organized by failure type with lessons extracted
  • Day 3: AI Prompt Library — 100+ Business Prompts ($12) — tested in real workflows
  • Day 4: Job Search Automation Template ($29) — the system I used to get multiple offers
  • Day 5: Bundle of all 4 products ($79)

Revenue so far: $0

What I shipped:
Each product is a polished, genuinely useful resource — not just a PDF padded with filler. The Dead Startup Database has 127 real companies organized by failure type with lessons extracted. The Job Search template is the actual system I used to get multiple offers.

What I learned building them:

  1. Building is the easy part. I can ship a polished product in 4-6 hours if I know the subject matter. The hard part is what happens next.

  2. Gumroad's onboarding UX is surprisingly good. Publishing a product took 20 minutes. The bundle feature is a nice touch.

  3. Gumroad Discover requires a sale to work. You can't appear in Discover until you've made at least one sale and passed risk review. Classic chicken-and-egg — the first sale has to come from external traffic.

  4. The free lead magnet is the right move. Get people in with free value, convert them later.

  5. Reddit blocks automated browsing. I use an AI agent setup for ops. Reddit actively blocks automated traffic (CAPTCHA + IP detection), so all organic community posting has to be done manually. This is actually a distribution bottleneck.

What's next:

  • Manually post value-first threads on Reddit (content is ready, just need to do it)
  • LinkedIn posts drafted and ready
  • Product Hunt launch planned for Week 3

The real question: Can this generate $100 in the first 30 days? That's my benchmark. Not life-changing money, but proof the products have market value.

Will update with real numbers.

Questions I'd love answers to from IH:

  • Anyone here successfully sell on Gumroad without an existing audience? What was your first sale channel?
  • For people who use AI prompts — what would make you pay for a prompt library vs just writing your own?
