We’ve all been there. You have a 1GB video or audio file, and you just need to trim the first 10 seconds or extract a quick snippet. Even in 2026, your options usually suck, I hit this.:
Open a "Pro" Desktop Suite: You wait for a heavy app to load, consuming half your RAM just to move a slider.
Use a Cloud Tool: You wait for the massive upload, worry about your data being used to train AI models, and eventually hit a "Sign up to download" paywall.
This constant "Upload and Wait" cycle feels outdated and, frankly, invasive.
I wanted a tool that respects both my time and my hardware. Instead of building another cloud-reliant app, I leaned into WebAssembly (WASM) to do all the heavy lifting directly within the user's browser.
Here is why this approach changes the game:
100% Private (Zero Uploads): Your files never leave your computer. In an era of data breaches and AI scraping, this is my non-negotiable standard.
Near-Native Speed: Since there’s no upload/download lag, the processing is nearly instant—even for massive files that would crash a traditional online converter.
Zero Infrastructure Bloat: No sign-ups, no subscriptions, and no "Pro" file size limits. It’s just a clean, functional tool that works.
I designed AudioCut to be a "surgical" tool for creators and professionals:
Instant Snippets: Extract high-quality audio from 4K videos in seconds.
Podcast Prep: Trim interview recordings without waiting for server-side rendering.
Sensitive Data: Cut private meeting recordings or memos with total peace of mind—it stays on your machine.
For the fellow hackers: I built this using WASM + Vanilla JS.
By moving the processing power to the Client-Side, I’ve managed to keep server costs at virtually zero while offering performance that rivals desktop software. It’s a proof of concept that we don't always need massive backends to build powerful tools.
I’m launching this to the IH community first because I value your technical perspective.
Is the WASM performance smooth on your machine?
What’s the one feature you always wish online audio tools had?
Does the "No-Upload" approach change how you view online utilities?
