I built a $30K product and dropped the price to $29. Here's why.

3 months ago I started building a document scanner app for Android. 21,000 lines of Kotlin later I had a production-ready scanner with CameraX, ML Kit OCR, searchable PDFs, eSign, RevenueCat paywall. I packaged it as a template on Gumroad at $149. 33 views, 0 sales. So I dropped it to $29. Nobody trusts a $149 product from a seller with 0 reviews. I'd rather have 10 happy customers than a price that makes me feel good. If you're building an Android app check it out: kahlon71.gumroad.com/l/scanvault-pro

The trust gap is real and something a lot of builders underestimate. When we launched our AI ad creative tool, we went through a similar realization — nobody cares how much it cost you to build, they care whether it works and whether they trust you enough to try it. Starting at $29 with zero reviews is actually smart because you're buying social proof, not discounting your work. Those first 10 customers will leave reviews, give you feedback, and become your case studies. One thing that helped us was offering a free tier so people could experience the value before paying anything — it removed the trust barrier entirely. Curious whether you've thought about a freemium model for the template, like a stripped-down version people can try first?
