I built a body health calculator suite because BMI is terrible

BMI was invented in the 1830s by a mathematician studying population averages. It doesn't distinguish muscle from fat and labels most athletes "overweight."

So I built bodycalctool.com — 5 calculators that actually tell you something useful:

  • Body Fat % (US Navy method, validated against DEXA, measurable with $2 tape measure)
  • TDEE (Mifflin-St Jeor with concrete activity level examples)
  • Waist-to-Hip Ratio (better cardiovascular risk predictor than BMI)
  • Ideal Weight (4 formulas for a realistic range, not one BS number)
  • Protein Intake (0.8-2.2g/kg based on activity and goal)

Stack: vanilla HTML/JS/CSS, client-side compute, zero data collection. No signup, no ads.

Would love feedback on what other calculators people want. Considering a macro splitter and 1RM calculator next.

This is such a clean and useful idea! The BMI critique alone is something fitness creators on TikTok would eat up. I run Faze Marketing, an iOS app that connects app developers with TikTok and Instagram creators for budget friendly sponsored posts. You only pay the creator when content actually goes live. Would love to get bodycalctool in front of some fitness creators if you're ever interested in trying that kind of exposure!
