I built a BYOK AI chatbot platform - here's why transparency beats convenience

[Launch] I built a BYOK AI chatbot - 3 months runway left, need first customers

Context: One year in, almost broke, launching today

Left my job January 2025 to build Ainisa full-time. Spent a year building a BYOK AI chatbot platform for WhatsApp/Telegram/Web. Have 3 months of runway. Need revenue now.

The bet: Developers and businesses will pay for transparency instead of accepting opaque SaaS pricing.

What is Ainisa?

AI chatbots that use YOUR OpenAI API key instead of hiding costs in their pricing.

Channels:

  • WhatsApp Business API

  • Telegram bots

  • Website widget

Upload your docs → AI answers customer questions using your own API account

The Economics (Being Honest)

Every AI chatbot SaaS does this:

Your 10,000 messages/month: - They charge you: $150/month - Actual API cost: ~$30-50 - You pay: $1,800/year

Ainisa:

Platform fee: $79/month Your OpenAI API: ~$40/month (you can see this in your dashboard) Total: $119/month Savings: $372/year

Wait, only $31/month savings?

Yes. At 10,000 messages/month, the savings are modest.

So why would anyone use this?

Why BYOK Actually Matters

1. You can see what you're paying Open OpenAI dashboard: "$42.17 for 9,847 messages this month"

With traditional platforms: "$150 charged" and you have no idea what went where.

2. You can optimize When you control the API:

  • Reduce system prompt length → save 20%

  • Use GPT-4o-mini for simple queries → save 40%

  • Cache responses → save 30%

One beta tester went from $80/month API costs to $45/month just by tuning prompts.

Traditional SaaS users can't do this.

3. Model flexibility Want to try Claude 3.5? The latest OpenAI model? Just update your API key.

No waiting for your platform to support it.

4. Scale economics Here's where it really matters:

At 50,000 messages/month:

  • Traditional: $500-750/month

  • Ainisa: $79 + $200 API = $279/month

  • Save: $2,520-5,652/year

At 100,000 messages/month:

  • Traditional: $1,000-1,500/month

  • Ainisa: $79 + $400 API = $479/month

  • Save: $6,252-12,252/year

Tech Details (briefly)

  • Multi-channel: WhatsApp Business API, Telegram, Web widget

  • RAG: Hybrid search (semantic + keyword), consistently high accuracy

  • Infrastructure: Laravel/PHP backend, Vue 3 frontend, Qdrant vector DB

  • Languages: 7 including Turkish, Russian, Azerbaijani (our home market)

The multilingual support isn't marketing - Turkish/Russian/Azerbaijani are genuinely underserved and we built for them from day one.

Numbers

  • MRR: $0

  • Customers: 0

  • Google traffic: 3,430 clicks over past year (conversion funnel was broken - fixed now)

  • LinkedIn: 15,000 connections

  • Runway: 3 months

The Offer

Code: 2026KICKSTART = 20% off annual plans (valid through December)

  • Pro: $240/year (3,000 msgs/month, 2 agents)

  • Growth: $758/year (10,000 msgs/month, 5 agents)

Plus your OpenAI API costs (visible in your dashboard).

Who This Is For

Try if you:

  • Handle 1,000+ messages/month on WhatsApp/Telegram/Web

  • Want to see exactly what you're paying for API

  • Plan to scale and want predictable economics

  • Hate opaque SaaS pricing

Skip if you:

  • Handle <500 messages/month

  • Prefer all-in-one convenience

  • Don't want to manage API keys

What I'm Learning

What worked:

  • Building the tech first (system actually performs well)

  • 7-language support (real differentiation)

  • BYOK positioning (resonates with technical buyers)

What didn't:

  • Spending a year building before validating demand

  • No conversion funnel despite 3.4k Google clicks

  • Thinking "build it and they will come"

What I'm doing now:

  • Cold outreach to Azerbaijan e-commerce companies

  • This IH/Reddit launch

  • Direct LinkedIn DMs to my 15k connections

  • Literally anything that gets customers in January

Questions I Have for IH

  1. How do I find businesses actively drowning in WhatsApp messages RIGHT NOW?

  2. Should I niche down to one vertical (legal/medical/ecommerce) or stay horizontal?

  3. Is "transparency and control" a strong enough value prop vs "convenience"?

DMs Open

I built this because I don't like paying for things I can't understand or control. If that resonates, try it.
