I built a calm app for food urges and emotional eating. Zero paying users so far. Here's where I'm at.

I'm a solo founder from Cape Town, South Africa, building The Gentle Coach alongside a full time job.

Most wellness apps track what you eat or give you a meal plan. But the hardest moment isn't deciding what to eat — it's the 9pm urge after a long day when none of that matters anymore.

I built The Gentle Coach to be there in that moment. Simple breathing and grounding interrupts to slow the urge down, with an AI coach on the side when you need to talk it through.

Live on iOS and Android. Zero paying users so far — being honest about that. Would love feedback from anyone who tries it, and happy to offer a free month to anyone in the community who wants to test it properly.

The part that stood out to me wasn't the AI coach—it was designing for the exact moment when most solutions stop working. At 9pm, people aren't looking for nutrition advice. They're trying to interrupt a pattern that's already in motion. If you become the product people trust in that specific moment, I think that's a much stronger position than trying to compete as another wellness app.

That's exactly the insight that drove the whole thing. Most solutions are designed for when people are calm and rational - meal plans, tracking apps, habit builders. None of them are built for 9pm on a Thursday when the day has already worn you down. That's the gap. Really appreciate you articulating it so clearly. That's going into how I describe the product going forward!
Would you be willing to try it and give me some honest feedback? Happy to give you free access for a month

I'd be happy to. Thanks for the offer.

And I'd still love to continue the strategic discussion as well, because I think there's a company-level decision sitting underneath the positioning you described that I don't think I can unpack properly in a thread.

What's the best email to reach you on?
