I built a directory of verified free hosting because I was tired of affiliate spam

Hey IH! 👋

The Problem:

Remember searching for free hosting as a beginner? Every Google result is either:

  • Affiliate-stuffed listicles from 2015

  • Reddit threads with dead links

  • Providers that shut down 3 months after you deploy

  • "Free" hosts with hidden gotchas

I wasted days researching before deploying my first project. It felt absurd that finding hosting was harder than building the actual thing.

What I Built:

FreeHosts - a community-curated directory of verified free hosting providers.

The difference?

  • ✅ No affiliate links (zero financial incentive to recommend bad hosts)

  • ✅ Community-verified by 300+ devs in our Discord

  • ✅ Organized by use case (static sites, full-stack apps, Discord bots)

  • ✅ Staff picks with real usage reviews

  • ✅ Regular updates (we remove dead/unreliable hosts)

Why This Matters:

Not everyone has $5/month for hosting. Students in developing countries, teenagers learning to code, people prototyping before investing—they deserve reliable deployment options without paywalls.

Current Status:

  • 300+ Discord community members

  • Growing list of verified providers

  • Organic traffic from developers searching for specific hosting needs

  • Zero revenue (and that's intentional—no ads, no affiliates)

My Question for IH:

  1. What would make this more valuable? API access? Uptime monitoring? Provider comparison tools?

  2. How do you think about monetization for a tool that should stay free? (Thinking: premium tier for businesses, not individual devs)

  3. Anyone interested in contributing/reviewing hosts?

The goal isn't to build a startup—it's to remove friction for the next generation of developers. But I'd love your thoughts on making this sustainable long-term.

Would love feedback, roasts, or suggestions! 🚀
