I built a free ATS resume scanner after watching friends get rejected by robots

A few months ago, a friend sent me their resume. Looked great. Clean formatting, strong experience. They'd applied to 50+ jobs with zero responses.

I ran it through an ATS scanner I was building. Score: 32%.

The resume had hidden tables. Section headers said "My Journey" instead of "Experience." Keywords didn't match. A human would never notice. An ATS rejected it in milliseconds.

That moment made me angry enough to build Dokets — a free AI resume builder with a built-in ATS scanner.

What it does:

  • Upload or paste your resume → instant ATS score

  • 8-point breakdown: formatting, action verbs, quantified impact, skills, and more

  • Import LinkedIn profile in one click (Chrome extension)

  • 12 ATS-optimized templates

  • Privacy-first: all processing happens on your device

What I've learned so far:

  • 52 features built

  • 28 pages live

  • Launched on Product Hunt

  • 6 real users from a 3-day ad test (all signed up, none stayed — working on that)

What I'm working on now:

  • Making the onboarding smoother so users stick around

  • Building organic traffic through Reddit and SEO

  • Talking to job seekers to understand what they actually need

Would love feedback from anyone who's been through the job search grind. What's the most frustrating part of resume building for you?
