I built a free chrome extension to display meta tags of a site along with other details.

Hi Indie Hackers 👋

I built a free chrome extension "Meta tags explorer".

It displays the below details currently

  • View meta tags
  • View social tags (OG, Twitter)
  • View header element count
  • View header hierarchy
  • Image file names & alt text

This is a sidebar which sits on the right side of any page and displays the details right there in the same tab. You can navigate to any page & the details of that page show up without any additional clicks.

Here's how it helped me. Whatever existing tool I found to find meta details, fell into these 2 categories.

  1. Copy & Paste the site URL in a meta tag discovery tool
  2. A chrome extension which shows the meta tags when you click on it.

When you are looking for meta tags in a blog which has multiple posts, it gets frustrating to copy/paste them into a discovery tool. There are a few extensions which make it easier, but even with them you need to click on the extension icon to see the tags of the page.

With "Meta Tags Explorer" you just enable it and visit any site or page you want, all the meta details are available right there in a less intrusive sidebar. Just navigate to a different page to see the tags of that page.

What it offers is better UI & convenience.

You can get it in the Chrome store

Let me know what you think. How useful is it for you? Is there anything else I could add to it?
