I built a free Google Business Profile audit tool for Canadian small businesses

Hey IH — I just launched Crankit (crankit.ca), a free GBP audit tool for Canadian small businesses.

The problem: most local business owners have no idea why they're not showing up on Google Maps. Their Google Business Profile is incomplete but they don't know what's wrong or what to fix first.

What Crankit does: you type in your business name and city, it pulls your GBP data via Google Places API, generates a 0-100 audit score across 4 key areas (completeness, hours, photos, reviews), and tells you exactly what to fix.

It's free. No login, no credit card.

Would love any feedback — especially from anyone who works with local businesses or does local SEO.

Really like the focus on Canadian SMBs — local search is massively underutilized by small businesses and you’re solving a real problem.

Curious if you’ve thought about the next layer though: local customers are increasingly asking ChatGPT or Perplexity “best plumber in Toronto” or “top accountant near me” instead of Google. GBP optimization won’t help there — it’s a completely separate visibility layer.

We’re running free AI visibility audits for tools like yours right now — would be interesting to see how Crankit itself shows up when people search for “Google Business Profile audit Canada” in AI search engines. Happy to share the results if useful.
