been building dev tools for a while and wanted to share something thats actually useful.
built a python-based seo analyzer that scans any url and gives you a score out of 100 with specific things to fix. checks title tags, meta descriptions, alt text on images, structured data, open graph tags, heading hierarchy, word count, https, canonical urls.
the interesting finding: ive audited about 250 small business websites this week and the most common issue by far is missing image alt text. one landscaping site had 266 images with zero alt descriptions. a photography studio had 72. these businesses have no idea google cant see their portfolio photos.
been cold emailing businesses with their specific audit results and offering to fix everything for $149. sent 172 emails so far. got 2 real replies - one pest control company in melbourne asked to see my work and platform, sent them the full audit breakdown. waiting to see if they convert. another fitness photographer replied skeptical so i offered a free report to prove the value.
the tools are python scripts i packaged up. also put together a web toolkit bundle on gumroad if anyone wants to use them for their own client outreach or agency work.
1.2% reply rate on cold email isnt amazing but its week one and the pitch is simple: here is exactly what is wrong with your site, want me to fix it? no fluff, just data.
would love feedback on the approach. anyone else doing seo audits as a service? whats your conversion rate looking like?
