I built a group payments app solo, launching on Product Hunt this Tuesday

I'm Simon, a solo indie developer. I just finished building FairPay, a mobile app (iOS) that lets friend groups create shared expenses and actually pay each other, all in one place.

The problem I kept running into: most expense-splitting apps only track who owes what. To actually send the money, you need a second app. Nobody wants to manage two apps for one problem.

FairPay combines the tracking and the payments in a single flow. You create a group, add expenses, and settle up with real money moving without ever leaving the app. Powered by Stripe Connect.

One thing that makes it different: only the group creator needs the app. Participants can pay their share directly via a link, no download required.

The stack:

  • Expo SDK 54 + React Native + TypeScript + expo-router
  • Supabase (Postgres + RLS + Realtime + Edge Functions)
  • Stripe Connect + PaymentSheet + webhooks
  • Immutable payment ledger, idempotent transactions, RLS on every sensitive table

Current numbers (no marketing, no launch yet):

  • 72 users registered
  • 29 groups created
  • 15 real payments completed via Stripe
  • Built completely solo — no team, no co-founder
  • App Store approved ✅
  • Pre-launch audit: 95/100 functional, 92/100 UI/UX

Launching on Product Hunt this Tuesday. If you're curious, I'd love feedback, criticism, or just a vote 🙏

What's the biggest mistake you made getting your first users? Genuinely asking.
