I built a love calculator site that now gets 100K visitors a month — here's what actually worked

I run a small network of niche calculator and astrology sites, and one of them — a love compatibility calculator for Indian users — just crossed 100,000 monthly visitors. I want to share what got it there, because it's not what I expected going in.

The idea was almost too simple

Enter two names, get a compatibility percentage. That's it. I built it thinking it would be a small side tool, mostly for testing SEO mechanics on a low-competition keyword. It ended up outgrowing that expectation.

What actually drove the traffic

A few things I didn't fully appreciate until I saw the numbers:

  • Search volume for "love calculator" queries is enormous and constant. It's not a trend-driven niche — people search this year-round, across every age group, in huge volume across India specifically.

  • Localization mattered more than I expected. A generic Pythagorean-numerology calculator competes with dozens of clones. Adding Vedic name-mapping — something more culturally relevant for Indian names — gave the site an actual differentiator instead of being another copy of calculator.net.

  • Adjacent content compounds. I didn't stop at the calculator. I built out content around love languages, a love tester variant, and FLAMES (a name-matching game a lot of Indian users grew up with). Each piece pulled in its own long-tail search traffic and kept people on the site longer.

What I got wrong early on

I underinvested in monetization strategy relative to content. I was so focused on traffic growth that I'm only now properly working through AdSense optimization, direct advertiser outreach, and affiliate/CPA options for a site with this much volume — traffic without a monetization plan is just a vanity number sitting there.

What's next

Expanding into Kundli matching and numerology content, since the audience that comes for love compatibility overlaps heavily with people interested in broader astrology tools. Same playbook: build the calculator, layer content around it, let search do the rest.

If anyone's built in the astrology/relationship-calculator space or has advice on monetizing high-traffic, low-intent tools like this one, I'd genuinely like to hear it. The site is at lovecalculatorbyname.co.in if you want to see what I mean by "simple tool, bigger niche than expected."
