I built a Mac app that blocks feeds without blocking the whole site

Most blockers solve my problem by nuking the entire site.

That never really worked for me. I still need YouTube for a specific video, Reddit for a thread from search, and X for a direct link. The part that wrecks my focus is the feed layer: YouTube Home, Shorts, X For You, Reddit front pages, and similar infinite scroll traps.

So I built Monk Mode for Mac to block the feed without breaking the useful parts of the site.

It is $15 lifetime: https://mac.monk-mode.lifestyle

Curious if other founders have the same issue. Do you prefer full-site blockers, or do you just want to remove the feed and keep intentional access?

This is a really clean insight — the problem isn’t the site, it’s the feed layer 👍

Most blockers feel too extreme, so your “remove distraction, keep intent” angle makes a lot more sense.

A few thoughts that could strengthen this:

→ Positioning is your biggest advantage
Don’t sell it as a blocker
    Sell it as:
    → “use the internet intentionally”
    That’s a much stronger hook.

→ Edge case to think about
Users will try to bypass (habit > logic)
    So maybe:

optional friction (delay before feed loads)
    or “are you sure?” prompts
    instead of just hard blocking

→ Big trust + clarity unlock
    Before/after visuals
→ show YouTube/X with vs without feed
    That instantly clicks for people

    → Stickiness idea
    Right now it’s prevention
    You could add:
    → “time saved”
    → “distraction avoided”
    → simple daily feedback loop

Curious — are people using it consistently, or more like “turn on when I need to focus”?

Also, I’m running a small project (Tokyo Lore) where we highlight tools solving very specific behavior problems like this and see how they actually land with real users.

Since your angle is super clear (feed vs intent), this could be a strong fit to validate what really sticks.

Happy to share more if you’re interested 👍
