I built a niche AI tattoo generator targeting Chicano art fans. Here's what I learned in the first weeks
Most AI image tools are built for everyone — which means they're optimized for no one.
I noticed something specific: people searching for Chicano tattoo reference kept
complaining that Midjourney and DALL-E just didn't get it. They'd prompt "payasa
clown girl tattoo" and get back generic Halloween art. The cultural elements —
smile now cry later masks, Chicano script lettering, lowriders, sugar skulls in
the right style — were consistently wrong or missing.
So I built a tool specifically for that niche.

What I built
Payasa Tattoo Generator (payasatattoo.shop) generates authentic Chicano-style
tattoo designs using AI. You describe what you want, pick a style, and get 4
designs in seconds. Free users get 3 generations/day with no signup. Pro users
($12.99/mo) can upload their own sketches for AI-enhanced designs.
Tech stack: Next.js on Cloudflare Workers, Flux Kontext Pro via kie.ai for
generation, PayPal for billing. Total infra cost: ~$[X]/month.
---
The niche argument
Chicano tattoo is a massive, passionate subculture with almost no dedicated
tooling. Reddit threads about it get thousands of upvotes. Pinterest boards have
millions of pins. But every AI tool treats it as an afterthought.
I figured: if I can be the #1 result when someone searches "AI Chicano tattoo
generator," I don't need to compete with Midjourney.

Numbers after [X] weeks
- Total visitors: [56]
- Free generations: [6]
- Paid users: [0]
- MRR: $[0]
Honest answer: still early. But organic search is already sending traffic for
long-tail terms I didn't even optimize for yet.

What's working / what's not
Working: SEO for niche terms, free tier as top-of-funnel
Not working yet: converting free users to paid (need to improve the aha moment)

Happy to answer questions about the tech stack, the AI prompting approach for
cultural specificity, or the Cloudflare Workers setup. Building in public from
here.
