I built a retro web time machine in one day — here's the story

I've always had a soft spot for the chaotic beauty of early internet — blinking text, dark backgrounds, hit counters, Comic Sans everywhere.

Modern web is clean, fast, beautiful. But also kind of soulless.

So I built Rewind.AI in one day: paste any URL and AI transforms it into a retro HTML version from the era of your choice — 2000-2003 (early internet), 2004-2007 (blogs & ICQ), 2008-2012 (first iPhone era), or 2013-2017 (Instagram/flat design).

The best part — the site itself is styled in the same retro aesthetic as the output. It's self-referential and a little ridiculous, which feels right.

Try it: https://www.rewindai.co

Would love to hear what sites you degrade first 😄

One thing I'd be careful with:

The interesting question may not be whether people enjoy the retro output.

It may be what job they're actually hiring it for once the novelty wears off.

Those can look similar early on, but they tend to lead in very different directions.
