I built a running metronome app to solve my own marathon pacing problem โ€“ now at 10k+ users

Hey IH! ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm Felipe, and I want to share the story of Runo โ€” a running metronome app I built to solve my own frustration.

The Problem

When I started training for marathons, I struggled to maintain consistent pacing. GPS watches show your current pace, but there's always a 5-10 second lag. By the time you see you're going too fast or slow, you've already been off-pace for a while. Over 26.2 miles, these small inconsistencies add up to bonking or leaving time on the table.

The Solution

I built Runo โ€” a metronome app specifically for runners. You set your target cadence (steps per minute), and it plays an audible beat you can sync your footsteps to. No more watching your wrist. Just listen to the rhythm and run.

Research shows that a cadence around 180 SPM reduces impact forces and helps prevent injuries. Runo makes it dead simple to train your body to find that sweet spot.

Where We Are Now

  • 4.7โ˜… rating on the App Store
  • 10,000+ runners using the app
  • Just launched Runo 2.0 with Apple Watch haptic feedback, social features, and Strava sync

Tech Stack

Built with React Native/Expo for the mobile app and Next.js + Payload CMS for the website (runoapp.com).

What's Next

Working on guided training programs and AI-powered cadence recommendations based on your running history.

Would love to hear your feedback! What features would make this more useful for your training?
