OAuth callbacks: the trick isn't the callback URL, it's making sure both localhost and the production domain land in the provider's allowlist in the exact format each one wants. Clerk wants http://localhost:5173 and the deployed URL; Google OAuth wants the redirect URI listed separately from the authorized origin. The coach queries the Clerk API to verify the allowlist actually contains both — not guessed from a screenshot.
Webhooks: two silent killers. (a) Signing secret pasted into the API key slot — Paddle's UI puts them one button apart and they look similar. Caught by prefix regex before it ships. (b) Signature header format differs per provider; coach walks that provider-by-provider.

Distribution's hard, agreed. Counter-angle: most indie SaaS never get to the distribution problem because they got stuck between git clone and a working .env file. Setup complexity is a pre-distribution filter — fix it and you've got a builder who can actually reach the stage where distribution becomes the bottleneck.
The "10-minute launch" myth is one of the most damaging things in the indie space. The setup complexity is real and most boilerplates ignore it completely. What was the hardest integration to abstract away — auth, payments, or something else?
Honest answer: not auth, not payments. Webhooks.
Auth you set up once. Payments you set up once. Webhooks you set up, discover they silently 401'd in prod three days later, re-debug with an ngrok tunnel your dashboard can't reach, realize you pasted the API key into the webhook-secret slot because the Paddle UI puts them one button apart, fix that, then discover Clerk expects the signature in a different header format than Stripe. Each provider has its own flavor.
The static-tutorial version of webhook setup also rots fastest — every dashboard redesigns its webhook section every 6 months. Half the buyer's time is "which sidebar item is it hiding under today."
That's the integration the coach earns its keep on.
On the MoR question: Polar has been the easiest for individual non-US sellers in my experience. Setup took under 30 minutes, no tax documentation headaches, and they handle VAT automatically. Lemon Squeezy's verification has gotten stricter since their Stripe integration changed.
Gumroad still works but the 10% flat fee hurts once you're past $1k/mo. If you're EU-based, Paddle's verification is worth the wait because their EU VAT handling saves you hours of compliance work later.

General "SaaS boilerplate comparison" posts don't rank and don't convert buyers; error-message posts do both.
Theory: if someone's searching the exact error the coach already handles, the post is half demo / half solution, and the CTA writes itself.

The hard part was never the code, it was wiring Chrome extension permissions, Redis on Upstash, DNS records, and Supabase auth in the right order without a single tutorial that matched the current dashboard state. Ended up having Claude Code walk us through it step by step, which is basically what you've productized.

I think the main friction is that it still feels like setup, just guided.
Even if AI does most of the work, the user is still in a mindset of as if he I needs to follow steps and not mess up

Where I diverge: a fake-preview phase would build a cliff. The moment fake becomes real (your Clerk tenant, your Paddle account, your env vars), all the anxiety returns in one lump and you've added a new class of confusion ("which parts were real?"). So the coach tries to make setup itself feel generative: every step shows a diff before applying, pauses before destructive ops, and the finish line is a green pnpm dev with your own name printed in the console — not "now go configure production." Ownership on the first run, not deferred.

Rolling my earlier answer back. The diagnosis was right and my "fake-preview → cliff" counter was too defensive. There's a real version of this that isn't a fake preview at all — it's making the first pnpm dev show the buyer's rebranded public site in full, with gated surfaces (sign-up, billing, dashboard) degrading to friendly "wire this next" states rather than crashing on missing env vars.
Current: clone → install → crash → 10 min of coached dashboard clicks → localhost works. Defense mode the whole time.
Proposed: clone → install → pnpm dev → their rebranded landing page is live in under 30 seconds, no creds required. Coach then graduates them from "public site works" to "sign-up works" to "billing works" — each step unlocks a surface, none of them gate the first impression.
Shipping this as T1 (graceful degradation across public surfaces) in the next boilerplate pass, with a follow-up T2 that adds a seeded demo Clerk tenant so the buyer can click sign-up and see it work on first run. Not a cliff — a graduation path. Thanks for the push; this probably becomes the next positioning shift once the DX is real.

Fair question, and honestly the boundary I'm still drawing. Current scope is strictly "working locally + deployed with real auth/payments/DB." Setup.
Production behavior (webhook retries, idempotency, state reconciliation) is the next layer — I think the coach pattern extends there naturally ("your Stripe webhook failed 3 times, here's why"), but I don't want to promise it before I've built it. Right now it's a setup product. The reliability layer is v2 if the setup layer proves out.

Right now it’s a Strapi plugin that scans files during the upload lifecycle.
The idea is to catch things that look valid on upload but break later — embedded payloads, unexpected content, stuff that only shows up once it’s actually used.

That's perfect — you've just named the exact failure mode the runtime coach is for. "Looks valid on upload but breaks later when it's actually used" is the textbook context-dependent decision: static config can't catch it, only a coach watching at the moment of use can.
Embedded payloads in uploads is the upload-side version of destructive pauses, additive runs. Accepting a file is additive. Executing/serving/unpacking what's in it is destructive — and that's the moment that needs the gate.

One read from the positioning side while I'm here: I'd consider pushing "runtime gate" into the headline itself, not just the mechanism description. Most Strapi plugin listings describe what the plugin does; almost none describe the exact failure they prevent. A line like "Accepts files that look valid but detonate on first use" makes the buyer recognize a past incident of their own — that's the moment a security tool sells itself, because nobody buys scanners on features, they buy them on remembered pain.

You've named something I've been circling. The coach pattern only works if the agent can act — and the moment it can act, you need the governance layer (what's reversible, what needs confirmation, what's cost-bounded).
Current scope: the setup coach has a crude version of this — destructive actions (overwriting env, deleting files, pushing commits) require confirmation; read-only and additive ones don't. It's hardcoded, not configurable. Works for setup because the action surface is small and known.
Your point lands harder at runtime. A boilerplate that ships AI-agent features should come with primitives for: per-action approval policies, cost ceilings, reversibility metadata, audit trail. Right now I'm treating that as out of scope — the product is "ship a working SaaS," not "ship a governed agent runtime." But I agree someone should build that, and the coach/wizard distinction maps onto it cleanly: wizards ask once upfront, coaches ask at the decision point.

Paddle takes 2–5 business days to verify individual (non-incorporated, non-US) sellers and I'm in that queue now. Opening a Polar application today as a hedge.
