I built a scalable PDF conversion tool, and here’s how I did it – Introducing PDFToWhatever.com

I’ve been working on a project for the past few months that I’m really excited to share with the community: PDFToWhatever.com.
It’s a simple but powerful tool designed to help people easily convert PDFs to a variety of formats, including PDF to JSON, Word, PNG, JPG, and more. Think of it as your go-to tool for all things PDF conversion. Plus, we’ve recently added bulk file processing for those who need to work with large volumes of PDFs!
The Problem I’m Solving
We all deal with PDFs – whether it’s for work, school, or personal projects. But converting them to the right format can be a hassle. Maybe you need to turn a PDF into a Word doc, extract data to JSON, or convert scanned documents into images. Often, existing tools are either limited, difficult to use, or just plain slow.
I wanted to build something that:
Is easy to use (no technical knowledge required).
Scales to handle large volumes of files.
Offers advanced features like batch processing, AI-based conversions, and more.
Lets people convert PDFs to a wide variety of formats with no headaches.
The Tech Stack
I’ve built this with Next.js and Tailwind CSS for a fast, responsive user interface. Everything runs smoothly on AWS to ensure scalability as demand grows. I also integrated Razorpay to handle payments and subscriptions (more on that in a second).

The Subscription Model
Here’s the breakdown:
Free: 5 free conversions (perfect for casual users).
Premium: Unlimited conversions, AI-based advanced features, and more for just $5/month.
I wanted to make it affordable and accessible while keeping things sustainable, so the premium plan is priced competitively.
Monetization Strategy
I’ve integrated Razorpay to handle payments, which makes it easy for users to subscribe both nationally and internationally. The goal is to build a product that delivers value while providing steady income to fund future development.
Lessons Learned
SEO is a game-changer. I spent a lot of time optimizing for search engines and making sure the landing page was content-rich and aligned with my branding (check out NyquistTech for the full aesthetic).
UX/UI matters. It’s essential to make sure the user experience is smooth. Tailwind and Next.js helped me design something that’s visually appealing but also performance-optimized.
Testing and feedback are key. I’m constantly iterating based on user input to make sure the product solves real problems.
What's Next?
I’m continuously working on improvements:
Adding more formats to convert to and from.
Improving the AI-based conversion algorithms for even better accuracy.
Adding team-based accounts for businesses that need to handle larger amounts of conversions.
Further scaling to support enterprise-level use cases.
