I Built a Screen & Comic (Manga) Translator with Rich Features

Hi everyone! I’m the solo developer behind Screen & Comic Translator, and I wanted to share my journey of building a tool specifically for power users and comic lovers.

Most screen translators are "one-size-fits-all." They work for a quick menu button, but if you’re trying to read a manga or a manhua, they fall apart. They don't handle word bubbles well, they can't process a whole folder of images, and the translations are often too literal because they use basic engines.

How I approached it differently: I spent the last year building features that generic tools ignore:

• Batch & Archive Support: I integrated libarchive so users can translate entire CBZ archives or folders in one go. No more page-by-page translating. All you need is to select a folder and it will recursively translate the comics or images.

• Manual Control: I built an Advanced Translation Mode that allows for manual text editing. If the AI misses a nuance, the user can fix it right there.

• LLM Integration: Instead of just Google Translate, I added support for OpenRouter and lets them use their own API keys. This lets users use hundreds of models like Gemini or DeepSeek, which are much better at capturing the "vibe" and context of a story.

• Auto-Screen Mode: For gamers and app users, I implemented a floating overlay with an auto-refresh mode that translates text as it changes on screen.

• Browser Translation & Bookmarks: My app lets you browse & do live translation of the browser screen while you scroll, with additional features like bookmarking for easy access and also full-screen reading mode for immersive experience.
