Hey Indie Hackers 👋
I wanted to share something I've been building: Invoex, a simple invoicing app for freelancers and small businesses.
Why I built it
For a while now I've been billing clients, and invoicing was always a small, recurring headache. The tools out there felt like two bad options: heavy accounting suites like QuickBooks and Xero that were overkill and overpriced for what I needed, or free tools that looked unprofessional and couldn't even handle tax properly.
I just wanted to send a clean, professional invoice and get paid — without learning an accounting system or paying enterprise prices. Nothing quite fit, so I decided to build it myself.
What it does
Invoex keeps it focused on the core job:
Create invoices, quotes, proformas, and credit notes in minutes
Get paid with Stripe & PayPal built in
Manage clients, a product/service catalog, and expenses in one place
VAT-inclusive and multi-currency-ready billing (I made a point of getting tax right, since that's where a lot of "simple" tools fall apart)
Dashboards and reports for cash-flow visibility
Security done properly — encryption and two-factor auth
How I built it
Solo, from scratch, on a modern stack (Next.js, TypeScript, Prisma/PostgreSQL, Stripe/PayPal). I wanted to prove you can deliver premium polish at an accessible price without a big team. It's been a lot of iterative building — the coupon/campaign system, security hardening, and getting the tax handling right were the trickiest parts.
Where I'm at
The product is live and ready. Now I'm focused on the part I find hardest as a builder: getting it in front of the people who need it. That's the honest challenge — I can build, but distribution is the mountain ahead.
A little something for this community 🙌
Since Indie Hackers is exactly the crowd I built this for, here's a genuine thank-you: 50% off with code INDIEHACKERS50, valid on the Premium Business and Unlimited Lifetime Pro plans. No catch — just my way of saying thanks for taking a look.
I'd love your input:
For those of you who freelance or run small businesses — what do you actually want from an invoicing tool? What makes you switch (or stay)?
Any advice on distribution for a focused B2B SaaS like this?
Happy to answer anything about the build, the stack, or the decisions along the way. Thanks for reading 🙏
The risk I'd watch for is defining the product as "simple invoicing."
Every invoicing tool claims to be simple. The distinction that came through to me is that you're reducing the overhead around getting paid, not reducing the number of features. That's a much stronger promise because it's tied to the outcome people actually care about.
Great work! The positioning is very clear. I think many freelancers want exactly this: a clean invoicing tool without all the complexity. Wishing you success with Invoex! 🚀
