I built a tool that emails you what your competitors changed this week — $49/month, 0 customers, roast me

Hey IH,

I want to share something I built — partly to get feedback,
partly because I genuinely believe it solves a real problem.

The problem:

I was manually opening 5 competitor tabs every week. Checking
their pricing pages. Comparing what changed. Taking notes.
Forgetting to do it next week. Then finding out a competitor
dropped their price 3 weeks after it happened — when a
potential customer mentioned it.

That felt terrible. I'd lost deals I didn't even know I was
losing.

What I built:

RivalPeek monitors up to 5 competitor websites 3x per week
and emails you an AI-written digest of exactly what changed —
pricing, features, messaging. No dashboard to log into. No
app to install. Just an email landing in your inbox Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday morning.

How it works:

  1. You pay → enter up to 5 competitor URLs
  2. Our server scrapes them Mon/Wed/Fri
  3. AI compares old vs new content
  4. You get a clean email: "Notion dropped price by 17%,
Linear changed their CTA, Coda — no changes this week"

That's it.

Tech stack (for the nerds):
Python FastAPI + Supabase + Render + OpenRouter (GPT-4o-mini)

  • Resend for emails. Total running cost: ~$0/month on free
    tiers right now.

Honest numbers:

  • Customers: 0
  • Launched: this week
  • MRR: $0
  • Runway: my savings

Pricing: $49/month, 7-day money-back guarantee.

What I'd love feedback on:

  • Is $49/month too high, too low, or about right?
  • Would YOU pay for this? If not, what's missing?
  • What would make you trust a new solo founder's SaaS enough
    to try it?

Thanks for reading. Built this from Indonesia, solo, in my
spare time. Happy to answer any questions.

Roast-adjacent, from someone who built the same plumbing: the Mon/Wed/Fri email is the right product shape, but the thing that will decide whether people renew at $49 is your false-positive rate, not the AI summary. Scraping 5 sites 3x/week, most of your diffs will be nav/banner/A-B test churn, and one email saying "Coda changed their CTA" when they didn't is enough to make someone stop opening.

Two concrete notes: (1) hash a scoped region per URL instead of the whole page — cut my noise dramatically; (2) $49 for 5 URLs reads fine to a funded team and steep to a solo founder, so the missing piece is probably a "watch 1 competitor free" tier that proves the emails are accurate before the card.

I only shipped the boring part of mine — hash + diff as an actor on the Apify Store, pay-per-event (it's called changepulse; IH won't let me post links yet) — for folks who want schedule + metering without owning scrape ops. Happy to run an 8-URL sample against your target set and send you the raw diffs so you can see what your noise floor looks like, no strings.

What's your current false-positive rate on those Mon/Wed/Fri runs?

You’re selling a useful workflow under a weak name.

RivalPeek sounds like a lightweight side tool. The actual value is revenue defense.

You’re not helping people “peek” at competitors.
You’re helping them catch pricing shifts, positioning changes, and offer moves before they cost them deals.

    That’s not monitoring.
    That’s competitive intelligence.

The product is stronger than the name currently makes it feel.

A sharper name would let you charge more than $49 and make the product feel less optional.
