I built a tool to be more productive

Hello hackers!

In my personal experience, finding the balance between hard work and fun is complicated, for this reason I created Dopaminite, it is a simple tool that helps you manage your time and improve your productivity. The way it works is very simple:

  • When you start working, you must click on "WORK HARD", this starts the counter and you will accumulate 1 dopamine point ⚡ for every 4 minutes of work 🕐.
  • When you need to be distracted (watch Youtube, check social networks, etc), click on "PLAY HARDER", this will start the counter again and consume the accumulated points at a rate of 1 dopamine point ⚡per minute 🕐.

When the counter reaches 0 an alarm will sound ⏲️.

80% work, 20% fun

And that's it! I know it's very simple, but this reward system is helping me to be more focused when I am working, I hope it helps you too.

Best regards!

This is a great idea. Any plans for a desktop version for Mac?

Would be nice to have a white background version.

I never did a Mac app, but could be cool, yeah. I guess it shouldn't be too difficult with Electron.

      Thank you!

I can do it natively for you, with swift. this way it will be a lot easier to have an iOS version too, ( I really like the idea ), shoot me an email at [email protected] if you're interested.

Check out Flutter too. Might be an easier path to 1 codebase, multi-device support.

Nice. Would be cool as a PWA, installable on a computer. That way don't need to reach for your phone (and get distracted by fb and whatsapp...) to use it.

I really like it. I suggest you make it a browser extension and make the home page more descriptive in the meantime. If I didn't read this post before going to the website, I wouldn't know what it does.

I love this idea. Simple and effective. Great stuff Miguel. Would love a theme toggle if possible (light / dark)

I am surprised to see that people are liking the tool, I may spend more time on it and end up releasing a new version with more stuff, I add dark/light theme to the feature list. Thank you!

This is awesome, love the neuromorphic design seems to be a trend among the recent indie hacker products. How long did it take you to build this out?

This is really cool. Have you thought about building it as a mobile app?

    1. 3

      Thank you @edjeffed!

Yes. A mobile app was the initial idea, but I decided to launch a webapp quickly to validate the idea first.
