I built a tool to simulate the life you didn’t live (and it got weirdly emotional)

I asked ChatGPT:

“What if I had quit my job and started a business in 2021?” It gave me a paragraph. Felt helpful for 30 seconds… then I forgot it.

That’s when I realized: AI gives answers, but it doesn’t help you decide.

So I built AlterPathways. Instead of a chat, it creates a structured report:

– 3 possible futures side by side

– scores across things like success, stress, long-term impact

– a “regret probability” per path

– and a weirdly emotional part: a message from your alternate self

Not predictions. Just perspective.

I built it because I kept getting stuck on decisions at 2AM:

Should I move abroad?

Should I quit my job?

What if I stayed?

I didn’t need advice.

I needed to see the paths.

Curious if this resonates:

Do people actually want tools to explore “what if” decisions like this, or is this too introspective to be useful?
